webfact
DPM Prawit claims traffic condition is improving in Bangkok BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said Tuesday that he was willing to take the consequences if traffic condition in Bangkok has not improved since the police have stepped up efforts to solve traffic congestion in 21 main roads. From his own observation, he claimed that his travelling time by car in the city had been shortened by between 10-20 minutes. “I can assure you that within seven days, traffic condition will improve,” said the deputy prime minister who was assigned by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha to improve traffic condition in Bangkok. He challenged the media to measure the travelling time they spent on any of the 21 roads compared to the time they used to spend on the same roads to find out there is any difference. However, he admitted that traffic would be as bad as it used to be if it was raining because drivers themselves would drive slower. NongKhaiKid
" Within seven days traffic conditions will improve ". After decades of mounting problems everything will suddenly improve because he says so ? Oh Well. Incidentally does he drive himself to the ministry or does he have a driver and perhaps an escort ? trogers
Twice in a week around 6pm. Took one and a half hours to drive from Soi Sukhumvit 33 to 43, and Soi Sukhumvit 24 to 22. Yes, traffic conditions have improved...
rkidlad
Well, it's not improving where I live (Major Ratchayothin). They are building the new BTS line there so I can't really complain. What I can complain about is when some silly official just blurts out meaningless words. "The traffic will be better!" It won't. "The traffic is getting better" No, it's not. But I'm a farang, what do I know? Edited September 21, 2016 by rkidlad

Caught up badly in that area a few weeks ago on a relatively quiet Sunday morning, it was a complete disaster to get through under the flyover coming back into the city. Took an hour waiting because the green light only allowed 3 seconds to pass under the flyover towards the expressway, it must have been a malfunction or a mistake in the traffic lights whoever programmed it, just hoping it wasn't on manual control... When heading towards Kasetsart University at the Ratchaython intersection, the lights can stay green for a while. Only problem is that you physically can't move forward because of all the cars left over coming from left and right. Light goes green - can't move anyway. ezzra
When he was Thai deputy prime minister in the mid-1990s, Thaksin Shinawatra promised to end Bangkok's notorious traffic gridlock within six months. Despite his subsequent move to the top job, the pledge remained unfulfilled. one of his brain child idea was to use helicopters to remove broken down cars, nothing changed since than, except talking heads that came and gone, and oh yes, it seems that the helicopters needs rescuing themselves now seeing how they fall of the sky every week.... richard_smith237
With the increase in inclement weather over the past couple of weeks I have personally witnessed the exact opposite... The Traffic in Central Bangkok has been absolutely atrocious at 'peak times'... How stupid do people have to be to believe a statement that traffic is getting better a handful of days following an announcement that traffic will be improved within a month ???? !!!! This is simply an insult to the intelligence of the general public...
