Premature delivery and fabroid specialist in government hospital

Dear All,

Doctor informed me that I have risk of premature delivery and I also have a fibroid in my uterus. If I have premature delivery in private hospitals, cost is very high to keep the baby in NICU (around 100K per day). So I have been suggested to go to the government hospitals.

Can someone please recommend me good doctor either in Chulalongkorn or Ramathibodi (foreigner section) hospital - preferably Chulalongkorn specialized for this case.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Try to see one of the following at Chula:

Prof. Yuen Tannirandorn

Prof. Somchai Thanawattanacharoen

Go through their after hours clinic which is on I think the 13th floor of the main OPD building starting around 4:30, someone might be there to take appointments earlier than that.

They are in Chula every Mon -Friday but I have no idea about their after hours availability through the Chula after hours clinic, but I see that Prof. Yuen is at Bumrungrad Mon, Tues & Wed evenings, Saturday afternoons  and at BNH on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings so if he has availability at all it would likely be on a Friday (but need to ask at Chula to be sure).

Whereas I see Prof. Somchai listed only at Bangkok Hospital on Saturday mornings, BNH hospital Sunday mornings and at St Louis hospital by special appointment - so he might have more availability, but again, only way to be sure is to check at Chula.

Unfortunately this requires an in-person visit to the after hours clinic, I have yet to find anyone who succeeded in making an appointment or getting info for the after hours clinic via phone. And best to have a Thai speaker with you when you go.

De[pending on your financial resources you might also like to consider delivery at St Louis Hospital (where Prof. Somchai is available). It will be more expensive than a government hospital but much less than the for-profit hospitals. For example, the daily charge for NICU (just the room & nursing charge, does oto include treatments) is 14,000 baht/day at Bumrungrad vs under 6,000 at St Louis.  Delivery by c-section 129,900 Bumrungrad vs 62,500 St  Louis etc etc. Costs if the baby needs NICU will still be significant but about half what they would be at a place like Bumrungrad. (the 100K estimate you got must have assumed baby on ventilator and the like - which can happen),

Thanks a lot for such detailed explanation.

I will check at Chula this Friday. St Louis is a bit far from my place but will check there as well.

Thank you once again.

Hi Sheryl,

I went to Chula and met Prof. Somchai Thanawattanacharoen. However, I found that NICU ward is not available there. Moreover, it took me 3 visits to get my ultrasound done and get the final check from doctor. So, it seems I have to leave the option for Chula.

As for St. Louis, Prof. Somchai does not work there anymore.

Now planning to go to Ramathibodi, more specifically  Somdech Phra Debaratana which is private part of Ramathibodi specifically for international patients. So, need your kind help again. Please let me know if you know any doctor there.

Thanks.
