SURVEY:  Is immigration becoming too intrusive?

 

In the recent past, immigration has appeared to be more intrusive into the lives of foreigners residing in the Kingdom.   In a recent report, foreigners were asked to complete questionnaires which asked for detailed information.   There are also proposals to track activity on social media, sim cards and other activities.   In your opinion do you believe that immigration is becoming too intrusive and do you believe it will help to weed out the 'bad' guys?

Vietnam has untrustworthy monopoly money and no one with a lick of sense would invest there.  GDP Vietnam compared to Thailand,  $2000 to $6000.  Get real.

They already know everything about people on retirement extensions the form is just extra paperwork to harass the old fellow.

I'm perfectly happy to tell them whatever they want to know, truth is they already know most of the stuff they're asking (and then some) but don't realise it. And if I should come across something that I think they don't need to know, I may just practise some creative writing skills but I certainly wouldn't make a big fuss out of it all.

It doesn't matter if you're ' doing the right thing ' as when it suits the rules get made up as officials go along and it's not easy or wise to argue.

How does that work when they want to expel you from the country?

Yes, they are very intrusive and the only ones that I know who are getting targeted are those who are legal.   I know people who are the proper visa and working, but have had to be home when they made their visits and some of these have been at very odd hours.

 

It's also a little unsettling when everywhere you go needs to be reported.

The only place I have been that was more intrusive was probably in Syria, many years ago.   There I had to report to the police every two weeks, but it was very quick.   They just wrote the passport down and said 'thanks.'   Finished.

Nothing harassing about it, if I had immigrants coming to my country to live I'd want to know everything I about them as well.

Did you read my post?  It was really a tiny post.  It said they already have all the information for retired guys so why ask again?  The answer?  Harassment.

be careful with the creative writing, by signing you are verifying ALL the contents of the form are accurate and true and if they prove otherwise you have now lied to them.

It is the repetiveness that bothers me most.  Asking for the same information on multiple forms, which they already have on my visa extensions, and the fact that they now have more photos of me than I have myself.  Keyword: Computers.  Use them as they are intended.

The phone number is on the form.  Why didn't you fill it in?  Or didn't you use a form and they somehow knew you?

You need to get out more and travel around a bit, same in many other countries, your not being singled out for more repetitive paperwork just because your here [emoji4]

Why?  I am being singled out for more repetitive paperwork because I live here.  I don't live anywhere else.  Thailand is the only country that makes me do repetitive paperwork.  I should know I do it.  Why would I need to travel to find out Thailand want's me to fill out repetitive paperwork.

So every 90 days isn't so bad after all.

90 days is a headache.   The 90 days some times has to be done at specific locations.   We have employees who must take a day off work to do the 90 day if they are married to a Thai and have a non-O visa.  

 

In Syria, I just had to show up at any police station anywhere with my passport.   I filled out nothing.   They just checked my passport and said 'thank you'.   If I was late there was no fine.  

 

I also said that it was the only place more intrusive than Thailand.
