Hello.

I will land in Bangkok from EU within six weeks. I have avoided staying in Thailand more than a week or so for many, because of visa problems. But I would love to stay more or less 5 months.

Is it possible to stay in Thailand more the less 5 month. By visa run to Penang, Phnom Penh, og Ventiane. And will it help if I stay 1 or 2 weeks outside Thailand between 60 days visa application?

Is there any consulates or embassies in Asia where it is easier to obtain a 60 days visa?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers Trott

Assuming you mean a Visa Exempt Entry (not Visa On Arrival) you could get permission to stay for 30 days on arrival (if you qualify), which could be extended by 30 days at immigration for 1,900 baht. You could then get a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) from a Thai embassy/consulate in a neighbouring country that would give you 60 days on entry and could also be extend by 30 days. 150 days total.

Some airlines won't let you fly without a visa unless you have an onward flight out of Thailand within 30 days so it would be better to get a SETV from your home country. Two SETV's that are extended could give you up to 180 days.

I strongly support the recommendation that you should start your planned stay in Thailand with a single-entry tourist visa. As you know from the outset that you will stay longer than 30 days, this is the correct visa.

I think all the Scandinavian countries are entitled to a 30 day visa exempt entry. You can check the list of countries  here. http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/customize/62281-Summary-of-Countries-and-Territories-entitled-for.html

Thanks Ubonjoe.

I have been staying in Thailand many times over the last 25 years, and yes I will get 30 days at the airport. What I am asking about is how long time I can extend the stay by going to a consulate or embassy in Penang, Ventiane, Phnom Penh or another place to gain 60 days at the time. I will be happy if I can stay in Thailand five months all together. :-D

You can apply for single entry tourist visas at any the of the locations you mentioned. But Penang or Vientiane are the best places.

You could get 30 day extensions of the 60 entry at immigration. With one visa exempt entry and a 30 day extension of it and one tourist visa you would have your 5 months.
