BANGKOK: -- THE INITIAL meeting of state agencies intended to expedite cases related to the previous government’s rice-pledging scheme failed to proceed yesterday after Finance Ministry staff did not show up.

Justice Minister Paiboon Koomchaya, who was to chair the meeting, said he did not know why Finance Ministry representatives failed to attend.

"I do not know why the ministry did not come. We could not carry on the meeting without a key agency such as the Finance Ministry," Paiboon said after learning about the absence.

The meeting chairman and other participants waited for almost an hour in a meeting room at the Justice Ministry.

Oh dear, political in-fighting, inter-departmental rivalry, clash of personalities or    ?

Non-attendance is a serious slight in anyone's language, an insult and distinct loss of face.

Maybe just mis-communication although it's hard to imagine Thai officials ever operating at cross purposes.

Maybe they didn't get a free lunch. They should be using the rice stockpiles for the free lunches and air trips by these people. You know they get meals and goodies every meeting.

Just another reminder that posts using derogatory nicknames or intentional misspelling of people’s names  will be removed.  If you don’t want your post to be removed, spell people’s names correctly.

Why did reps from the Finance ministry fail to appear????

I think the answer is simple different ministries singing from different hymn sheets.

If they appeared somebody would lose face, and as we all know that cannot happen here.

Anything to do with the "Rice Pledging Scheme" and the junta government's moves against it seems to be becoming toxic.

A lot of people seem to have an eye on the future.

Uhm, maybe call them and ask?

Can't do that. Lost of face. The Justice Minister is god all mighty and single minded agenda towards Yingluck. Seem he can't fathom the tacit disobedience to his action to pressure the Finance Ministry to carry the heavy load of signing the seizure order.

Given that this is a military government one would have to wonder what would happen if Thailand was on a war footing and part of the armed services forgot to turn up for the battle. Discipline seems to be crumbling under the General's leadership.
