Hi all first post and probably been posted before but I'm just not sure on which visa I should apply for, for the last few years I have been coming to Thailand on a METV obtained from the Embassy in London, staying  around 6 months  then returning to the UK to work  to get enough money for my next 6 months in Thailand,   now due to the visa changes I cannot meet the METV requirements, I have a 10 month old child with my Thai partner and plan to get married in April, my question is I have applied for a single entry 60 day visa which I am hoping to extend for another 60 days being the father of a child, then do a border run getting another 30 days, this will leave me needing another 30 days, can I do another border run or is there a better solution, I am not loaded so cheaper options if any would be better for me, thanks in advance for any advice

You can extend the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry by 30 days for tourism or 60 days to visit your child. Either extension is 1,900 baht.

I thought the METV had only been introduced since 13 Nov 2015 (less than a year).

When available many people incorrectly called 2 and 3 entry tourist visas a multiple entry visa which means unlimited entries when discussing visas.

You could of applied for a single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai that would of given a 90 day entry that you could extend for 60 days.

The one introduced  Nov 2015 requires details I could not meet, one being having to show I believe £5000 in bank for the previous 6 months, before then you did not have to show any money in bank and cost me £50, now £125

Thank you ubonjoe for your reply, can I ask would I be able obtain such a visa once in Thailand, also what your suggesting a 90 day entry, which could be extended for 60 days giving a total of roughly 5 months would I then be able to do a border run thus giving me roughly 6 months, which is what I am looking for

Normally, you must apply for a visa outside Thailand. If you have a tourist entry, there is a procedure called a "conversion" to change the tourist entry into a 90-day non immigrant entry that is then equivalent to an entry using a Non Imm O visa. Most immigration offices cannot do the conversion, in which case you need two visits to Bangkok immigration 15 days apart. Unless you are staying in Bangkok, it is usually easier just to visit a consulate near Thailand (for instance Vientiane) and get a single entry Non Imm O visa there.
