Festivals in Chiang Mai

I have some friends who where planning to come to the 2017 Songkran Festival.  Does anyone know if Songkran 2017 in CM is going to be affected by the current events in Thailand?

I think he means Songkran 4/2017.

No need for a crystal ball to predict that it will a subdued celebration with not much in the way of the usual water fights.

Probably traditional ceremonies to anoint family elders at home and Buddha images at wats.

Most of us here are hoping that Songkram will be cancelled... or at least the water throwing part ;-)...

Perhaps and maybe you might get a better answer if you contact the Tourism Authority of Thailand.  Their website says it's on, but talking with them might provide updated information.
