Libyan tourist shoots firearms instructor at shooting range

PHUKET: -- A local firearms instructor was shot by his student during a training session at the Kathu Shooting Range located on Patong Hill at noon on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old Chaisit Chusawad received a bullet wound on his right leg, caused by a 9mm handgun.

“The shooter, named Emad Jamal Khalifa Hamed hailing from Tripoli, Libya, came in with his wife to purchase 10 bullets for handgun training at the shooting range,” confirmed Kathu Police Superintendent Pattanachak Jakkapan. “He told Mr Chaisit that he was going to shoot five bullets, while the rest were for his wife.

 

Col Pattanachak told Phuket Gazette that a misunderstanding regarding safety requirements at the range, most likely caused by a language barrier, may have resulted in the accidental shooting of Mr Chaisit.

"Mis-understanding" regarding safety requirements 

 

Surely pointing a loaded fire-arm at the instructor was breaking, even, an unwritten code of safety. Surely "language" barrier is not in this equation. 

 

Although, when this word "mis-understanding" rears its' head, anything is possible.

Reading the whole story, it sounds like an accident where possibly the instructor shot himself.

They are considering charges in this accident when the perpetrators that beat and killed the German motorcyclist have not spent a single night in jail two years later. WOW

Last time I was at that shooting range about 8 years ago me and my two mates signed in as Al Capone, Clint Eastwood and James Gagney, within 10 mins we was tooled up with Shotgun, 45, 9mm and an AK, to say was a bit laxed there then, I seem to remember not long after a young German lad went into a shooting range South end of Phuket, was given a weapon then promptly turned it on them,stuck the place up and robbed them... Ahh LOS...
