webfact Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Authorities clear Sanam Luang for better crowd management BANGKOK, 31 October 2016 (NNT) - The Situation Monitoring Center (SMC) is set to coordinate with a relevant agency to help turn Sanam Laung into a waiting area for people coming to pay their respects to the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej. According to the SMC, people who plan to spend a night at Sanam Luang have been advised to stay at designated places, including the Thai-Japanese Stadium, Baan Oun-jai and Nang Loeng Racecourse, as Sanam Luang will be used by authorities to manage the crowds from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will also be daily bus services to and from Sanam Luang for people staying at these places. While many people are waiting outside to enter Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall, only 30,000 people are allowed inside the compound per day. Those who don't make the cut will be asked to come back the following days. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has urged public and private organizations wishing to donate essential items to the mourners or wanting to use spaces at Sanam Luang for good causes to contact the BMA at 1899. This is to ensure better distributions of food, water, and other items to the visitors of the Grand Palace. Parents should make sure their children and the elderly are wearing badges with their names and contact information in case they get lost. Around 151 children and 72 elderly people were separated from their families from October 18th to 29th. All of them, however; were reunited with their loved ones at last. -- nnt 2016-10-31
