You got something called Foreign Currency Deposit Account. I looked at this in Bangkok Bank some time ago. Guess most of the bigger banks got it.

I connected my Thai card to Paypal and use it the same way as my european card. Just had to register it for online use, that was all.

I have both Thai AX and Visa. Both are connected to Paypal.   I have been always been able to buy anything direct or through Paypal using the VISA payable in any currency and then converted to Thai baht on my card - shitty exchange rate.  Paypal will not accept payments with AX  that are to be paid in five Asian currencies, Thai baht being one of them.  So I cannot use my AX through Paypal to buy anything on line that is to be paid in Thai baht, Example: Lazada. It's not a problem since I know the limitation. so I either use visa or bank transfer, or pay direct with AX.  I contacted Paypal and they said that it  was AX'S policy and contacted AX and they said that it was Paypal's policy.  I really think that it is Paypal's policy.

In my experience PayPal are total a******s to deal with. Do something you'd think was quite usual eg. access your account from a foreign country, and you'll find they suspend your account and you have to verify all over again. A friend of mine who uses PayPal to accept payments reports all sorts of trouble dealing with them

It is very difficult to pay for good delivered outside of Thailand, for example a gift to someone in Europe, using a Thai credit card or Paypal connected to a Thai card.

I don't do any payment with PayPal, the most worthless thing i ever experianced!. And companies who push you to pay via PayPal i ingore and don't buy anything from them!

paypal was run by elon musk who wants to take us all to mars.

i know that he has sold paypal to ebay.

so that there was a slight improvement in service.

paypal is a great idea but the experiences are often bad.

paypal has been scammed many times in the far east

and that i think is still the problem with paypal.

I couldn't agree more. They are a pain in the a*** to say the least. Could not access my account here and was not able to verify it, because every time I tried to and had changed my password and wanted to log in, the same crap started from anew. Eventually called their Luxembourg number and an agent told me how to regain access, but basically I had done it the same way several times and it didn't work. Then sent them emails, the first they replied with a useless text module, and my subsequent mails they did not even bother to reply. 100% rubbish company and system

i will never use paypal ever again. i got some funds sent to thailand and they locked up my account. twice a day i contacted them and every time i got a new person asking the same questions. i got so frustrated i swore in an email and that started a whole new s#it storm. they are complete c#nts.

If you expect to repatriate funds brought into Thailand, then you need to complete an FET (Foreign Exchange Transaction) form when transferring funds.  You can download the form from various websites.  This form will allow you to send the cash equivalent out of the country having proved that you brought it in in the first place.

Many  companies selling on-line will not ship to Thailand. Customs problems probably. I buy small gifts (clothes, earrings, etc) for Thai family and have never had a problem. No problem paying with my US credit cards or my Thai credit card. Paypal once set up works OK but I still prefer using a credit card.

If you transfer money in from abroad, you can transfer the same amount back. It is easier to do it from the same bank account; otherwise you need a form from them which you have to give to the bank from which you transfer out, proving for the Bank of Thailand that you had transferred the money in first.

Best is to check with your bank.

Yes you can

It is not all that primitive here....lol

However....Setting up an account??...Many people have complained how much they struggled to establish an account.

You will find out.

jungunnar.

The op who said the FCDA,is quite right. The yellow bank does the best one.You get two cards. One is an ATM and the other is for checking your English(say)to Thai balance and how much you have left on both balances.Unless its changed now,but i used one for many years.

Thanks for all replys. have a good idea now about that. No PayPal and only CC to use in Thailand. and funds transfer back out of the Land of the Free is possible ok.

But can anybody tell me what counts as proof that you brought or transfered the funds into Thailand in the first place ???

^^ Yep I second these two. I use bangkok bank savings account with debit card and every penny I brought into Thailand from the USA went through this account. After about 8 years of doing this and building a house, I sold the house, and moved $45,000 USD at one time back to the original US account. Went to my local branch bank with $45k worth of thai baht and it was safely in the USA about 5 working days later (and a lot of worried hang wringing)

Never used the FET Form I don't think, but the branch tried to make me divide up the transactions. Wasn't until I went in with print outs from the website and they called the 'head office' that I was allowed to make the transaction.

Just use 1 bank account for moving your funds into Thailand. Every cent. Once you want to leave, its a lot easier to move it back. But of course TIT and the local branches make shit up as they go along so it can get frustrating.

The transfer itself. Your Thai bank at which the transfer was received has a record.

The reason you didn't need a form is that you used the same bank. They do this internally somehow. If you received the funds at an account in one bank and want to transfer from an account at another bank, such paperwork is required.

I used the same bank branch and account for everything, and I never even updated the bank book. Dont even know where it is. You can get an official bank transcript from your bank for the life of the account and get a complete running total of all the cash you brought in. I think it was like 500 baht for the complete history of my account. Thats 8 years worth of at least once a month transfers into thailand. Its an official thing with bank stamps on it. I would venture to say, whatever you brought in, you can take back out.

And money brougth in in cash and declared at the Customs at Suvannabhumi Airport is as well counting as proof ?

So long as Customs provide you with some formal confirmation of your declaration, I would have thought so.

But, at the risk of stating the obvious, it is probably not a good idea to transfer any more money into Thailand than you need in the first place so as to avoid being hit with 2 sets of conversion fees in the event of any part of it subsequently being repatriated.
