The chief of Bangkok's police has said that injuries sustained by a man in a gambling raid on Wednesday were not enough to kill him.

 

Met spokesman Kritsana Patanacharoen also commented that in his opinion there was no excessive force used in the arrest though he couldn't say how the bruising had occurred either.

 

How do they know the injuries sustained were not enough to kill him, if they didn't know how they occurred?

The police weren't beating him, they were trying to resuscitate him by pounding him about the face and chest.

 

An autopsy cannot be performed as he chose the expedited cremation option.

You can be sure of foul play whenever any death with 1 Km of police results in immediate cremation - ever wondered why that is?

I agree with you, that it is encouraging that ordinary Thais should now be questioning their "betters" for answers when the suspicion of injustices like this occur. 

 

However, I can't see anyone at the top championing reform on these issues - that would upset the long-established status quo!

 

Rather than any trickle down from above, I suggest reform on injustice in Thailand will need to come as an upwelling from below.

Some police forces have a very effective internal investigation system with checks and balances but that's too much to hope for here.

Sadly I agree, the problem being, any  upwelling, from below, tends to become violent, as those above try to stop it.

That wasn't down south , that was right here in Bangkok at DSI holding cells i .  Yes , like most of the investigations these days , every thing goes quiet after they realise how absolutely rediculaus their explanations are .

Wow!!! The chief of Bangkok's police has received such extensive training in medical diagnoses that he can observe external bruises and determine or rule out if they were lethal enough to cause fatal internal or cerebral injuries.

Blood clots can come from bruises caused by kicking or hitting someone, and blood clots can lead to heart failure , so if he died from heart failure its probably the kicking is the cause ........

You wonder why the police here have zero respect from the people when the top policemen says that. How about if he said. We will look into every possibility I can assure you that if any policeman did this, then he will be prosecuted. We will look at every possibility but there will be no cover up, I can assure you.

 

But this is Thailand and I am not looking for a job as the chief of police spokesperson, honest.
