Hi there,

Ok, started getting an itching around my anus and it made walking really hard - would go away sometimes for weeks, but in the end, I decided to go to Dr. Oliver in Pattaya and he had a quick look at my old anus, and said you have got a slight inflammation and probably got worms.  He did not say which type, but after some internet research, I presumed he was meaning pinworms.  I took the Mebendazole tablets (one a week after the first one) they are 500mg each.   I thought they had gone, but no, they came back itching me... I had a load more course of the same medicine but they have still not gone, I am now changing my bedsheets more often and wearing underwear in bed to stop them getting out of my ass (you can actually swallow them again and you will reinfect yourself)...

I decided to go to the Hospital in Si Racha in the end, I gave a stool sample and even took a couple of worms in for them to look at (they were not interested in my take in worms funnily enough, but they assured me that it was because they were not fresh enough) I did a stool sample - pretty hard to poo on demand, but I dont think I let them down... however, the tests came back negative for all worms (common enough not to find them in a test apparently)

I showed the doctors the old pill id been taking and she said maybe you have a different worm... perhaps ringworm or hookworm or even a mixture of both! and prescribed me with 4x200mg of Albendazole to be taken over 2 days - which I have just completed.

Now if all this has not grossed you out enough, and well done if you are still reading, last night, my lip started to hurt a little - like if yo tear a bit of skin of it kind of pain... then this morning when I was checking on it in the mirror, I saw the same small (2 mm) white worm under the skin of my bottom lip... I managed to get it out, but now I am worried that they are all inside my face...

I am going back to hostpital in a couple of days, but I am wondering if the Albendazole has made my worms move up my body?

Sheryl will have better advice for you, but you need to find a hospital that will listen to you. Sounds like you need that worm identified and get prescribed the right medicine. I really like that TV show "Monsters Inside Me".  There is a lot of dangers out there.

You are going to wait a couple of days to go to the hospital AFTER you see worms coming out of your face? Your priorities are just a bit different than mine. Good luck.

1. Ringworm - -which can affect any part of the body - is not actually worms, it is a fungal infection and treated with anti-fungal creams.

2. Pinworms (also called threadworms) do not spread to the face. They also are not easily visible to the naked eye and you would not be able to see them in the manner you describe..They are treated with mebendazole/albendazole. It is however hard to get rid of them and reinfection is common. Need to treat all bedding, towels etc - wash in really, really hot water and dry at high temperature, ditto your underwear.

I don't know what was under the skin of your lip but almost certainly was not a pinworm. I don't offhand know of any worms present in Thailand that manifest in that way (there are some in other parts of the world e.g. Africa ,but not here). I suggest you see a dermatologist.
