Warong says Yingluck’s rice sale just a setup

BANGKOK: -- Former Democrat party's MP Dr Warong Dechgitvigrom today accused former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra  of another setup and of adding more hardship to farmers for selling Hom Mali rice to the people at just 20 baht per kilo.

He also dismissed her claim that the rice she sold to the people was bought from farmers.

Instead the rice she sold out in a matter of an hour was bought from millers not farmers, citing the 50-kilo bag package as evidence of setup.

Earlier Yingluck’s sale of 10 tonnes of rice was sold out in an hour.

Posted on his Facebook today to discredit Ms Yingluck’s rice sale at Fashion Island shopping mall in Bangkok on Saturday, the rice expert and former MP of Phitsanulok province who earlier exposed rampant corruption in the controversial rice pledging scheme of her government, said the Hom Mali rice which she claimed was bought from farmers to put on sale was in fact bought from millers.

He cited the 50-kilo packaging which contained the rice as evidence of proof.

He said normally no farmers have the capacity to contain rice in 50-kilo packaging.

He said millers equipped with modern equipment could handle the 50-kilo packaging which was meant only to sell  to major customers or for export only.

He said no farmers have such capability to fill rice in such a big package.

Whilst the media continues to report on her, she will play up to that.

No doubt her"minders" are feeding the media & she is following "instructions" from the Puppeteer in Dubai!

It would appear Democrats are clutching at the remaining straws, after the rice is sold.

There is plenty of rice to go around guys, if you get off your butts and assist in the spirit of free enterprise!

Just a pointer, Sour grapes not selling well at all........

Open question to Dr. Warong. "have you help any poor farmers in Phitsanulok so far". My advise is for him to save all those lips flapping energy and do something positive to help the farmers.

Perhaps he ought to give us his opinion about the current rice pledging scheme and if he thinks anybody in the current unelected government ought to be held account for the billions of baht that it will cost the Thai government.

As to his criticism of Yingluck - who bought the rice at above-market prices and sold it at her cost - it's pure malarkey.  At least she tried to help (and, please, I really can't be bothered with screams that she was only doing it for political reasons unless, of course, you can assure us that the current rice pledging scheme was done by Prayut and his appointed military friends only for pure ethical reasons).

Hmmm,  semms the so-called rice expert maynot know what he is talking about

He claims that "no farmers not have have such caperbility to fill such a big package" 50 kg bags.

Err sorry mr I'm an expert,   Butt all the rice farmers around this area have a up to 100 50kg bags or more, I know I've helped load up the rice on the pickup's

My wife's family have a small rice mill and they mill other farmers rice for a cost or % of the rice milled.

Most villages have a few small rice millers.

But at the end of the day she is buying and selling rice, so that is helping farmers and that's a good thing...

What is this wnger doing to help the farmers???

Ha ha ha! Of course it's a set up and publicity stunt. Subtle way to stick it to the PM and gain some public sympathy for herself at the same time.

Junta got up their game and actually do some reform or it time for a new mob lol .

When Yingluck can out do you in rice propaganda you know you useless lol .

I been on a friends Hino loading rice and 50kg bags can be done by someone on the village farms.

what she going do bring back 10 kilo in tesco carriers or get it bagged if a village has the ability (most will have someone who can handle it) !

'the event was staged because, in the following day after Ms Yingluck’s visit of the farmers, they went to the same venue in order to buy rice from farmers and there were no farmers there to sell rice'

Staging and politically exploiting a crisis which she helped create. Disgusting. Except to shameless Shin-shills on here defending, approving and applauding away as poor farmers are again hoodwinked and taken advantage of by a kleptocratic multi-billionaire family.

Problem solved just teach the farmers how to fill a 50 Kg bag and eliminate the middle man. Do you need a five or ten year degree to learn the 50 Kg bag business.

Just need a scale. Scoop up the rice to bag to weight. Seal with electrical heater scale if plastic (Macro has many sizes and qualities) or electrical threading if woven bag (sold everywhere). Built a hopper if you want low tech faster bagging. I do all this in my chemical business. Break bulk and bag. That simple. Warong is talking thrash.

...should be arrested for insulting the government....

...that way they will be sure she won't flee if they ever charge her for the billions that disappeared at her hands....

And my question to you  Eric Loh:

"Do you think her action - or any of her actions -  helped poor farmers anywhere so far?

Filling the 50kg rice bag it not hard to do. However it needs to be milled first and unless the farmers have their own small rice mill or access to the village if they have one then the small farmers will always lose out.

What this government OUGHT to do if it was smart enough is to supply each village with a rice mill and proper storage facilities either as a gift or an interest free loan. They also need to teach people in the villages proper accounting, rice handling/storage etc and get the villagers out at gas stations etc selling their rice.

For the smaller farmers it will be a win/win situation. The larger farmers and the big agro farmers can use the existing millers and storage anyway.

Solar kilns for drying rice will be very suitable. I see lots of this kind of kilns use for drying timber, bamboo and rattan in SEA. Not too expensive and easy build. Rice can be dry all year round without the fear for the wet season.
