PHUKET: -- Two days after a jet-ski ridden by a tourist slammed into rocks at Kalim, north of Patong Beach, the Patong Police, Tourist Police and even the head of the Patong jet-ski operators today (Nov 11) all said they had not received any reports of the incident but were now investigating what happened.

Somprasong Seangchart, the chief lifeguard at Patong Beach, however, was aware of the incident.

“There were two jet-skis driven by tourists. They lost control in strong waves and jumped off the jet-skis before the jet-skis hit the rocks,” he told The Phuket News.

“One jet-ski was turned upside down and water got into the motor. The other jet-ski looked like it had much more damage, and the body of the jet-ski looked broken.”

Nucha Petchvimon, President of the Patong Jet Ski Club, said he was unaware of the accident, but added that was “not unusual”.

“I don’t know about any jet-ski accident at Kalim. Usually, the tourist and the jet-ski figure it out by themselves with Patong Police,” he said.

The whole setup is a scam, there should be an independent  insurance assessment, with no input  from the owners, or the owners repairer. The insurance company should track all jetski via the engine number, to make sure all repairs are carried  out,  and can not be used for future scams, the cops should not get involved, no laws have been broken.

But what about the jetski insurance scheme that should cover this (pulls pin from grenade, runs off and hides).

Read the report

A license is required to ride a jetski in Thailand, if you do not have the required license you are not covered by any insurance policy, same goes for riding a motorbike

Why did the kill switches not work? Jet-skis will not go far with the engine not running.  :whistling:

Going full chat on a jetski then bailing off and the lanyard doing its job and cutting the engine, the ski will still travel up to 20 meters depending on conditions, so an idiot riding straight at rocks (or probably that distracted through ar$$ing about did not realize the danger) then yes would cause damage

The report that says 'the renter and hirer normally 'figure' it out with the Police lol...
