The 10'000$ Insurance should be no problem, because even the cheapest insurance plan I am looking at is more than that.

I think the biggest problem would be the 100'000 baht monthly salary... but for this they have the 3 million deposit. And this only have to stay the first year.. .After that you can use this 3 million to stay in the country and buy food and other things.. But actually this 3 million wouldn't be enough anyway for the remaining 9 years... (333K per year, 27'777 per month) is not a lot... If you really intent to stay in thailand 10 years or more.. this 3 million will be gone and you have to bring in more funds anyway.

In my opinion it's not dead money.. because you can put it on a deposit, which gives about 1.5% or even more.. depends....

Agreed smart people don't flaunt wealth especially somewhere that life is so cheap. I once met a guy in Bangkok who insisted on telling everyone we met he was a millionaire upon first meeting them I haven't seen him for a while I sometimes wonder if he made his backpacking trip around Myanmar Laos and Cambodia.

Well it is rather telling what you can get accused oif bragging about around here. Mention you stayed at a nice resort and people will attack you because they can live for 3 months up in Udon on the same amount.

It was a ridiculous question to anyone that read my post in the context at the time.

So I won't bother answering you. I just saw your question as pointless baiting. Bye.

Is it actually clear if the $10k per-annum is the policy cost or the potential payout/benefits.

An old friend (with a pre-existing heart-condition) was paying an £8,000 per-annum premium.

Yeah, and many can not get insurance at all. It seems to me they are weeding out the death pats. You know, the ones that look down at the sex pats.

But I think no insurance is only a problem if you are over 70 years old.....

For example the cheap insurance from pattaya expat club.. you can start with the insurance till age of 70 and renew till 75....

But yes.. after 75 it's almost impossible to become a new insurance... so therefore.. you should look for an insurance before 60 years.. when it is still possile.. and take care, that you have liftetime renewal.... the costs of such insurance is different....

That's good news. So it seems like there is no excuse not to have it. will the policy still pay off if it is found at autopsy that viagra and valium complicated their heart medications?

That was a bit harsh but the point is it isn't only the age of the ex pat it is self destructive behavior that makes insuring them insane. Insuring a guy in Pattaya who leads an "active" life is different than some old guy in a nursing home in Tuscon.

was not referring to 3 million , only telling you the options , knowing for my E.U only 10000 €  can be not declared pass , but as many you like with  liquid assets declaration form http://fiscus.fgov.be/interfdanl/downloads/2014-02-26-decl-cash-nl.pdf

As long you have proof where the money came from , no problem , for the allowed free amount even is good to have ATM or bank slips , sniffer dogs .... I had them when leaving Schiphol to Thailand once... no problem as documentation to show with me  .

BTW , when i reach75 later i go live back Europe official but part time Thailand , I shall take out the free amount of Thailand every flight ...

Also it is by person , so if you have travel companon or wife ....you can double it

Most important is your planning and documents traceable for them ...

Also Thai ATM cards works in Europe to witdraw....same as my E.U.prepaid card I can load with my Thai bank at 5000€ limit each time and that card can witdraw to my E.U.bank ....so unless Thailand block  account , money can get out Thailand by the backdoor ,even legal

Hi David.

Yes I take your point about taking the legal amount of currency on you and your wife's person.

what I was trying to say was, what happens if you are in Europe and all of a sudden your Thai ATM card does not work anymore.

You have three million baht in Thailand but your bank says it cannot transfer by Internet banking and you have to come back and sign 'form'

I would suggest contacting your Thai bank and ask them to send € 3000 of your money to your bank in Europe.

please let us know how easy it was.

Actually I hope (wish/dream) that thailand would introduce that local insurance company not easily could kick older people out.

That would improve in my opinion the safety for older people a lot.. because they know if they have problems.. they could rely on the insurance company...

You would have better luck with a gofundme account.

When i was back in Australia last year, applying for my O-A visa, one of the things i had to produce was a medical cert  guaranteeing that i did not have..........wait for it !     Third stage syphilis or leprosy. Nothing about HIV.  My doctor nearly fell on the deck with laughter

Well here we go again,it's all in the wording that some posters are correctly pedantic about. There is no 1 year visa for 50 year olds in Bangkok, ect. But it does sound promising.

Doing a Non-O abroad (Penang, Phnom penh etc), instead of a Non-O-A in ones own country, means no police or medical check needed.

An old Canadian friend was refused an O-A based on the police check.

You do not KNOW that.

I realize that using logic becomes somewhat awkward after living in the LOS longterm, but let's just try for a moment shall we?

Even given the usual level of incompetence and xenophobia from the powers that be, in what universe does it make any sense whatsoever to interpolate that ALL other types of visas MUST be replaced by a ten year visa for foreigners over 50, in an attempt to encourage "medical tourism"?   It simply defies logic.

No, I don't KNOW it, but I SUSPECT that the sky isn't falling anytime soon.  But feel free to panic - as always, it's up to you.

Just pointing out the drama is not justified, sorry you've taken offense.

When i read, that this visa is made for some region (not for all) it sounds for me as additional visa.. but I think soon we have the exact wordings and how it will behave.

it could be a replacement, but i don't think so. But till we know it everything is only speculation....

It isn't a regional visa it is just likely their target demographic lives in those places. IE older people.

But there are older people in almost every region in thailand. So why the explicitly named regions like (Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, ....)

This naming of parts of Thailand was the first thing which makes me wonder.. What about a person who want to reside in another province...

If this is not mandatory to stay in one of the selected areas.. then why even write about it...

They are simply giving examples of their target demographic. Older guy lives in Chiang Rai who is more health conscious.

OK... I am waiting for more detailed information on that one...

I am anyway a few years to young for that... so have to go another route for the next 6 years.... after that It could be an option...

Again, using logic, how and why would they attempt to restrict the visa holder to residence in certain provinces?

After reading so many english translations of press releases here, why would anyone take such a literal, strict, word for word interpretation of this one?

It would 'replace' the retirement visa for folks currently using it, who wish to have a 10 year visa (or more likely extension).. Not remove the option totally.. Is how I read it.

Anyway bring it on.. If if gets rid of some of the moaners and penny pinchers.. Thailand is no longer cheap, 300 baht yuppie beers and fashionable sets.. Get rid of the chang singlet contingent and I dont think Thailand is going to cry a river.

Do you have any idea how obnoxious you are?

Id vaguer most pensioners won't be able to meet these requirements. I suppose some US citizens can meet the lump sun with the 401k system they use but it will be tough for most who also don't wish to liquidate their assets at home.

The snobs on Thai Visa are out in full force as per usual labeling all who's pension is sub 100k as "Chang singlet penny pinchers" Preposterous.

Well it's good news for you and your ilk as you will no longer have to share soi with these dirty sex tourists. After all you belong to an entirely new class of affluent and cultured expats. May you share many cocktails at the Hilton sky bar celebrating the demise of these dirty peasants.

For the record i meet these demands with ease but i'd hate to be stuck in LOS with you people. Might as well stay home then.

Strange.. I post this news, with the exact same info.. Thread closed.. Not enough information.. Then Thaivisa posts it..

Cant see what people are whining about.. 100k a month for a 10 year visa, in 2 blocks of 5... Just superb.

Hope its still in force when I cross 50..

Maybe you are in the high society but i think many retired guys dont get that much as a pension.

Just wonder if you are arrogant or stupid, really.

The same older people have long been lording there easy visas over those that are younger. I have heard it all... kick out the visa hoppers, abuse of ED visas, I am here legitimately so everybody else should have a visa like I do.

If the chickens come home to roost there isn't a lot of love lost.

Yet another retarded visa introduced :)

My conclusions are that they want people staying longterm that has a chance to loose a big sum when/if abandoning Thailand, or dying.

I myself would totally buy a condo in thailand if i knew i could live there atleast 6month a year in the future. Today i am to young to get 50+ visas and who knows what happens in the future, since they are changing everything "all the time".

" It was not immediately clear when the plan would be implemented." Probably in about ten years, not that there will be anyone here in ten years.
