rooster59
Foreign investors urge modification of 2008 act on foreign workers BANGKOK:-- Foreign investors yesterday reiterated their call for Thailand to modify its law on foreign workers reasoning it us outdated. The call was made as Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha addressed foreign investors at the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand yesterday. They suggested that the Thai government make modifications to its 2008 Foreign Workers Act as it was outdated and has been in use for far too long. Brer Fox
As usual the normal Thai introversion and insecurity rationale takes over. Check out this pathetic excuse. "They stated that under the current legislation foreign executives who have to enter Thailand to join corporate meetings or perform corporate roles such as financial and budgetary comptroller duties have to apply for work permits before being allowed to enter the country." Such childish pettiness seems normal practice by the control freaks in Thailand. What hope ?
trogers
Perhaps the Thai side does not want too much scrutiny on financial matters...?
HiSoLowSoNoSo
Another outdated thing with their work permits it that you legally only can work from the address stated on your work permit, silly rule. I don't expect any major changes in their rules and I will never invest in Thailand again.

Redline
Unfortunately, ignorance of the influences of the "outside world", is causing a slow bleeding of the economy. Believing that no "outside" assistance is needed in any area, when this country has little resources, is simply a ticket to obscurity. How do you become a HUB of anything without expertise and flexibility?!

Autonuaq
There is missing information in the news item. Because there is an update of the act 2008 they have that update not included. The update tells what is work and not for a foreinger. The board meetings are under the update not seen as work permit needed. No work permit needed for that at all. The roles are still needing work permit and that is logic. Logic because, the view is that the work describt to do in report to the management. The board mangenement meetings and meetings with the work involved like the update describs they do not need work permit for the foreigner executives. Therefore no need to bring in work horses from abroad. Update your company structure and the problem is totally solved. blackcab
You haven't needed a work permit to attend meetings since March 2015. The Thailand management of these companies probably didn't tell their overseas superiors to stop the surprise visits.

You don't need a work permit to attend meetings, but you do need one if you are coming to perform actual work roles. So the answer is come for the meeting then go and do the work back in your Singapore office or wherever.
