Community Woman Seriously Injured After Radio Device Explodes in Rice Field in Roi Et
Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A woman was seriously injured in a mysterious explosion after picking up a radio left in a rice field and attempting to listen to music. The incident occurred in Ban Khok Sung, Moo 6, Dong Lan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Roi Et Province. According to local authorities, the victim, Mrs. Duanphen Panwai, aged 60, suffered severe injuries to her left hand, which was nearly severed and sustained shrapnel wounds to her thigh. She was rushed to hospital by relatives before emergency responders arrived at the scene. Police and administrative officials investigating the area found an old wooden field hut approximately one kilometre from the nearest village. At the scene, they discovered bloodstains and shattered pieces of what appeared to be a radio. Initial investigations revealed that Mrs. Duanphen had gone out early in the morning to cut grass for her cattle when she spotted the portable radio left at the hut. Believing it to be abandoned, she picked it up and switched it on, hoping to listen to music. Moments later, the device exploded violently in her hands. Villagers said the radio had been seen at the hut since the previous day, though no one knew who had placed it there. The victim’s husband, a village deputy headman, reportedly saw the device earlier but thought little of it at the time. Police are now working to collect forensic evidence from the site and plan to interview landowners and residents in the surrounding area as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are treating the explosion as suspicious, given the nature of the device and its placement in a remote location. Adapted by Asean Now from Kaoded 2025-07-10- 1

Accident Pickup Truck Tyre Blowout Causes Crash with Student Vehicle
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Fourteen students, members of a school volleyball team, were injured, two seriously, in a traffic crash on the evening of 9 July after a pickup truck suffered a tyre blowout and crashed into a school vehicle in Mueang Loei district. The incident occurred at approximately 18:20 near the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) on Maliwan Road in Na Pong sub-district. Emergency services including police, rescue volunteers from the Sawangkiritham Foundation and the Ruamjai Rescue Association responded promptly to the scene. A school songthaew (modified pickup with seating) from Tessaban 2 Bung Sai School was found overturned onto its side at the roadside. The vehicle had been transporting student volleyball players and their coach back to Wang Saphung after competing in a school sports event in downtown Loei. Nearby, a pickup truck fully loaded with bananas and showing clear signs of a rear tyre blowout was also at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that the school vehicle had been travelling in the far-left lane when the pickup truck, driven by a man identified as Mr Witthawat in the right lane, experienced a rear tyre explosion. The truck swerved out of control and struck the student transport vehicle, causing it to overturn. A total of 14 students sustained injuries, with two in serious condition. All the injured were rushed to Loei Hospital and Wang Saphung Hospital for immediate treatment. The driver of the school vehicle, Mr Piyarach Sukpue, who also serves as the team coach, is cooperating with authorities. Police have launched a formal investigation and confirmed that appropriate legal action will be taken pending further enquiries. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-07-10 -
