BP medication reducing libido?

Featured Replies

I have been taking Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg and Metroprolol (half a 100mg tab) daily for about 3 or 4 years now and have a experienced a noticeable reduction in sex drive. I am 74 so I guess some loss of libido is natural, but I'm sure the BP medication doesn't help. I have tried Viagra and a couple of genetics and all they seem to do is make me feel bad and give me a headache. Any (sensible) suggestions?

Get off the meds. No guarantee the you will be dead without them and you've had a good run so better go out with a smile

The other option is to head back home and join a bowls club with women your own age and stay on the meds..

Please ignore the above advise. It is quite possible to treat/control your BP without depressing your libido or causing ED, just a matter of finding the right meds.

Talk to your doctor, explain the problem and request a change of medication. There are many other BP meds that can be tried. The ones you are on, have the highest incidence of this side effect. ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin II Inhibitors much less so.

I take Doxazosin for mild BPH but it is also prescribed for high blood pressure...

On of the side effects I experience on a regular basis is morning wood

Are you 74 or older?

Troll posts and posts quoting them have been removed. There  is zero tolerance for this is the Health forum. this is  a place for discussion about serious health concerns, which all of us will have some day if we do not already. Not the place for jokes or wisecracks at members' expense.
