YALA, 12 December 2016 (NNT) - The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) revealed that its Kam Pong Tak Wa campaign has been successful in restoring peace in the Deep South.

SBPAC Secretary-General Supanat Sirantawineti said he was satisfied with peace restoration efforts in the restive south; especially the progress of Kam Pong Tak Wa campaign.

The campaign, whose name can be translated to ‘a community of integrity’, provided mosque and community management training for local religious leaders. Supanat said their involvement will significantly bring peace and a sense of unity to local residents as religious leaders are much revered by people in the communities.

The SPBAC Secretary-General also described the love and bonds between Thai Muslims in the Deep South and the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. During his reign, His Majesty King Rama IX had ordered the Al-Quran, or a Muslim bible, to be translated into Thai so that Muslim Thais could study more in depth about Islam.

His Majesty the late King initiated many royal projects to improve the livelihoods of people in the southernmost provinces. The late King was also given a name in Malay ‘Ra Yoh Kee Toh’ which means the King of Siam.
