Hungry much? Women condemned for picnicking in middle of BTS

BANGKOK: -- A video of three women having a little Friday picnic in the middle of the BTS like it's nobody's business went viral over the weekend, drawing negative comments from Thai netizens.

While many, many locals annoyingly fail to adopt well-known BTS etiquette, such as not blocking the whole escalator and leaning against the poles, these women took things to the next level on Friday as they sat down on the BTS and shared snacks.

In case you haven’t heard, the BTS announces about every 10 minutes that there is “no eating and drinking in the BTS skytrain system.”

Last weekend i saw a boy spitting down on the road from the skytrain-deck....so cool.

Also when i bleeped my rabbitcard on the computer to pay the girl infront of me suddenly decided to walk back from the gate....so she had to squeeze herself past me in that small booth.

Then there was a big group standing still at the end of the escalator when we came down, had to push them away.

I also noticed that the escalators for up/down should be changed direction at some stations, they make the rows of travellers cross eachother which is not sabaai.

Sitting on the floor in skytrain is also not done imo but leaning against poles is fine with me.

How long is an average time to be on the BTS? I'm sure they could have waited until they got off ! Its a pain to get past people on there most of the time, It doesnt help when you get people sat on the floor.

The point is that the first guy does not travel on BTS a lot or he would have reminded us that the announcement is for "eating drinking and smoking"..... though sometimes when I run for the train there is smoke in my trail!!!

:sorry:

I find most Bangkok's bts commuters good compared to my home Melbourne Australia. I've seen people urinate in the corner, idiots that cause fights,  people affected by alcohol or drugs make a nuances and dheads that just have to stand in front of an opening door preventing your exit. The bts isn't that bad compared to some

Please fine the 3 ladies 300 baht each and prevent them from getting promotional fares in the future.

I have been screamed at for missing a snack shop while driving as it was unseen until we had driven past. The bunch eating in the BTS, if they did not get their feed when wanted ( RIGHT  NOW) they might have really made problems. I have found its best to feed a Thai promptly when they say they are hungry.

The ones that get my goat or those dangling off the straps like a monkey on a tree branch, taking up as much as a meter and a half of space, and blocking the exits.  I've had trouble getting off half-empty trains because of selfish bumpkins like that.  Instead of playing advertising on the trains and platforms all the time, it would be better to have some etiquette films.  The whole design of those circular grab rails is wrong also.  It causes people to cluster near the doors.  All other metro systems have the rails in the center of the car, so people move in.

Maybe Chinese as I would think any Thai would know better and would hear the announcements regarding eating and drinking.
What gets me are these morons who get on with their backpacks on and go about as if it was not there. Turning, backing up and hitting everyone around them. Stupid people with backpacks should either put in front of their chest or hold in front by their feet.

'Basically' would have to be a close second!

And "yummy". Heard it for the first time earlier this year, now i seem to hear very little else.

I find more often than not it's groups of western tourists who enter, wearing backpacks and don't budge from the door area as well as leaning back against the central stanchions or holding onto two straps at the same time.

Families with baby carriages, again more often westerners or Middle Easterners also tend to cluster at the doorway but in fairness, there is really no other place for them to fit except at the car end.

Since the trains always stop at the same mark, It would make so much sense for the BTS to designate certain entry points, where the cars join and have some open space for baby carriages and bicycles and people with large bags and backpacks.

All this said, I just returned from the US where I rode subways in Boston and New York where the rail cars are universally filthy, strewn with Burger King wrappers and hand out newspapers and the passengers as a group have PHD's in rudeness compared to Bangkok's.  I saw much more pushing into cars before allowing people to exit. passengers taking up two, even three seats with their bags..or even just slouching across a row while others stood.   Miss a train and 20 minute waits for the following one not unusual.  Complex fare arrangements can mean long delays while driver/fare collectors handle questions from passengers unable to understand the collection terminals and topping up their cards.

It really made me appreciate the BTS, despite it's shortcomings.  One rarely sees a piece of paper on the floor of a BTS car and I have been very impressed lately as to how orderly people line up at the proper marks at Siam and other busy stations, generally allowing people to get out before pushing in.

+1,  most are totally clueless.

Regular users of the BTS will have noticed the very annoying passengers who insist on taking a spot adjacent to the exit in order that they can lean against the glass to facilitate easier use of their phones. They cause a jam for others trying to get on or off: worse at lunch time and when school finishes.

It's pretty universal these days and not just a Thai thing...more generational and for those unable to ride a train for 15 minutes without checking Kim Kardashian's latest activities.
