Amended article 14 seen as a powerful tool to muzzle public-welfare campaigners.

BANGKOK: -- ACTIVISTS AND civil-society groups will face serious challenges protecting their rights and natural resources as the amended Computer Crime Act can be broadly enforced against them, legal experts have warned.

After the new amendments of the act were approved on the third reading by the National Legislative Assembly on Friday, many people have expressed concerns about even tighter limits on the Internet and fewer protected rights. In particular, commentators have said that activists will be extremely vulnerable under the law, predicting that it will be widely used in Strategic Litigation against Public Participation (SLAPP) cases.

What is the problem ? You write your email, hit send, and off into the wires it goes, and if all goes according to plan, you get a reply. No problem ! Anyone who has a problem with this is probably up to no good, and there are hordes of them out there :(

SLAPP, a wonderful acronym for a not so wonderful lawsuit.  We all know where civil rights are going in junta controlled Thailand.  The phrase "free fall" comes to mind.

No need to police it then, is there?

So many laws to suppress anyone who might say or do the wrong thing, or not do the right thing (wearing clothes which aren't black enough for example), and not enough time to prosecute everyone.

The key here is to have enough laws so you can selectively apply them just enough to scare the phrai into kow-towing to the amart. Throw in a deliberately poor education system, and a losing agrarian policy, and voila, Siam ca. 1800's just as they want.

Gossiping in a sense can pass on more anti junta information than a computer. Does that mean in the future that people that walk around with gags in their mouth are guilty of the Gossiping Act??

Yes dead simple isn't it? Providing the message contains nothing that the junta dislikes.

I heard besides the "like" button and "report" button here on TV,  there is going to be a "report to Thai government" button.

I think it is just a rumor. so no worries.
