BANGKOK: -- Army commander-in-chief Gen Chalermchai Sithisart said today that the military would resort to explanation to dissenting groups of people on the recent passage of the amendment to the Computer Crime Act by the legislature after several government websites were attacked by hacktivists in protest of the legislation.

He said the military junta would try to make them understand of the law.

However if explanation fails and cyber attack continues then legal action will be dealt with these dissenting groups, he said.

He said as far as authorities have traced, most hackers are youths, and therefore the military will explain to them on what damage it will cause to the country for their acts.

He said the military has relevant agencies to monitor the attack and know which group is responsible for the attack on government and the military websites.

.......then he will explain the damage done to the country by closing the mine in Pitchit and the effect it will have on foreign investment.

Goodness knows there's no faith in the police who are supposed to enforce laws could make anyone understand.

Nice of them to explain things first, a real wink to the gallery of international community and domestic consumption, as if they're not what they are.

Which brings us back to that pesky internet again....

And just how are the military going to make "dissenting groups" understand.

Could be dark times ahead...

Understanding reality is not in their job description.

History & "burning books " comes to mind . Control of information has been relegated to dinosaurs, won't work.

You will be punished! No more internet cafes for you, no more playing games when you should be at work, you will be conscripted!

This is so damn ridiculous. The only guys who they are known of are those kiddies who download a software on their computer which just always repeatedly open the government websites to overload the servers. And probably using their own internet connection for this. Good luck to send these kids to jail. Will make the situation worse.

Testicle batteries? Waterboarding? Lost at sea? 1990s Internet speeds?

Eventually they will turn their attention to the comments on TV.

Comments will have to be turned off or TV will be blocked in Thailand.

Not that it would make a difference.

Are they going to announce that VPN's are illegal along with sex toys, prostitution and not wearing a helmet?

I wonder if they will come for Expats all at once?

Will we be given a chance to ship our stuff out of the country?

Or will we just be loaded onto those big military troop trucks in the middle of the night?

Vee Haf Wayz of make you talk!  Ja Vol!

The cynical side of me thinks Hackers are going to be "our" only means of response in the not too distant future.  Hackers... the new Robin Hood?

Sorry, but I find it oxymoronic anytime I hear the military dictatorship using the term "legal".  There is no law in thailand by any standard any civilized country adheres to.  The coup took over, and they can and have been doing whatever they want.
