BMA’s Bangkok clean-up plan takes off today

By The Sunday Nation

Bangkok officials will launch a “Big Cleaning Day” in parts of the capital today as part of new Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Governor Asawin Kwanmuang’s policy to tidy up the city.

The event will kick off today when BMA Deputy Governor Chakraphan Phewngam leads a clean-up around Wongwian Yai, before Asawin spearheads another session around the heart of the city – Victory Monument – tomorrow.

Throughout the first month of the New Year, the BMA also plans to clean up 365 fresh-food markets across Bangkok, according to reports.

Yup BKK markets are ALL badly organised and filthy. Even in Brasil or other similar countries they are much better organised and safe.

I see electric cables laying on the floor EVERYWHERE, even when it's raining.

Meatvendors who let the juices from meat drip on the floor, low hanging roofs with pins sticking out, very bad floors even when brand new and made of concrete.

Boiling wok's full of hot oil right next to the walkingpaths, very dangerous.

Every market has some idiots driving against traffic, parking on the road causing much congestion and so on, i have never seen a policeman writing fines at a market. The traffic jam caused can be huge, even onto mainroads at some places for km long.

I rarely find a bin on a market.

These bureaucrats are ripping the heart and soul out of Bangkok.

Nope, they are giving heartchirurgy to the heart of BKK....There should ALWAYS be a  policeman on EVERY big market to keep things in line or it will become a huge mess and very dangerous to visit.

Especially in the subs there are very dangerous/dirt markets to find. You'll find them by the traffic jam, people walking/parking on the road. They just have to organise them and make some rules to maintain.

Also they should invest in markets and give them a terrain legally and on paper so it's worth to invest in a good roof and parkinglot, electricity, drains/toilets, lights, PA-systems and so on.

One day?? Needs to be every day. There are so many empty blocks that are used for tips . Local food stalls that pour their waste down the drains feeding the rat population. Go to the beaches and look at the rubbish left every where. Bangkok is a huge rubbish tip. Education and enforcement usehst is needed , and some rubbish bins at tourist areas. This topic could be endless .

They could do so well by putting lots of bins around the place like most cities have! The only place i know of where you are guaranteed to find a bin is 7/11

Easy there laddie your talking about spending money for garbage bins. I think you can relate to that wink wink.

Yes mostly but not Always! In very busy places where there's no bin around also the 711 took it away.

I just throw it on the floor if they don't have one, i'm tired of walking around 30 minutes searching for one and just do like the Thai now.

Beachroad Pattaya has one at EVERY 10 meters, that's perfect but they should clean them and also the place where they stand.
