Experience with 3bb VDSL at View Talay 2b, Jomtien?

I wanted to apply for the fastest VDSL plan from 3bb. A technician came to my condo to measure the signal strength/quality. He said, the signal is to weak. I should better stick with my current ADSL plan. I talked to the View Talay 2b office. They told me, it would be necessary to replace some cables, which would be a bigger job and quite expensive. But, 3bb Isn't willing to do this since the building is too old. Actually, i can't believe that. If the condo management is willing to pay for the work, why would 3bb not take the job.

My current plan is ADSL 18/1.9. I real i get 15/1.8. It's not that bad. But i would like still to improve it. I don't want to change to another ISP for several reasons.

I wonder if other people from that building have interesting information about that.

AND: a second question: For mobile data (and voice) I'm with AIS. Which provider covers the best WiFi for the area Jomtien? Mobile data is not the solution since i use often a lot of data when I'm outside. 1 GB is used in few days. Earlier, I had 3bb WiFi. But their coverage is quite poor in Jomtien. AIS is even worse.

I'm grateful for every hint.

Thanks.

Expect the building phone line wiring is in the walls and goes through switching junction boxes also.  It could be like deciding to replace electrical wiring--not an easy or cheap job.    And Internet Service Providers usually will not run wiring on the outside of a condo bypassing its internal lines unless the building management agrees, the condo is no higher than the 3d story, and other factors don't come into play.

Phone wiring in VT buildings is in the risers and the false ceilings in the corridors. Replacing this cable should be very simple and cheap in all cases, though of course the cable that actually goes from the corridor into your room might be a bit more tricky if it was installed without the use of conduit. Some plastering and repainting might be needed.

But perhaps they are referring to the underground cables that come from outside into the building? Those might be more complex and expensive to replace if they are in bad condition, and might even require digging equipment in the worst case.

Have you considered approaching the committee about fibre?

Me thinks that's the cables they speak about.

I heard often, Fiber wouldn't be working properly on higher floors. I'm on floor 9.

When i moved to this floor, i got told, there is no free line available for this floor. But they could install a new line for 1700 Baht. This installation was made by the technician from the building (but it had nothing to do with the telephone wire to my condo). 3bb then did only activate or redirect the signal to my condo. Because, I moved from another room within the same building.

When i asked the committee first, months ago, to replace the cable which 3bb refers, i got told it would be expensive, but they would make a topic and will do an election. The committee was in contact with 3bb. Obviously, the committee agreed to replace the cable. But they told me, 3bb doesn't even answer any requests anymore. Strange.

Probably somewhere there is a misunderstanding between 3bb and VT2, which results in....... nothing. So i guess, nothing will change.

VT2 actually invest a lot of funds to keep the building up to date. They are just about to replace the 3 elevators, roof over the parking lots for motorcycles, painted the fassade and many other things.. They did many things which makes to living here more comfortable. So I believe, VT2b would be willing to improve the access to the internet for their residents.

But what can i do...

Well, that's definitely not true. Fibre can go as high as you like.

1700B for an internal phone line seems very expensive to me.

I read on another forum that there is a petition (in the lobby?  at the front desk?) of VT2B to bring AIS Fibre into the building.  If enough people sign up, AIS will set up the necessary infrastructure to enable AIS Fibre internet service throughout the building.

Yes, there is a petition. So far, 6 or 7 people has signed. The modem costs 4000 Baht. If the customer joins a 1 Year contract, it's for free. Also for free is the installation of the cable to the room.

However, one would think, the internet companys would fight to make such a installation in a big building like VT2b.

I guess, not many will sign. Most are happy with the 3bb wifi which is offered as well.
