BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today assured that he would not revoke any special law to arrest the former abbot of Dhammakaya temple.

His assurance came as there was speculation that a special order would be imminent for the almost 1,000 police and Department of Special Investigation officials to break into the temple to carry out his arrest.

By noon today police and DSI officials are still encircling the temple awaiting a final instruction to storm into temple. They are engaged in an apparent stand-off with thousands of Phra Dhammachayo’s followers who were said to prepare for the formation of human barricades to protect the stubborn monk.

What's the big deal here? I'm guessing a public backlash of arresting a monk? Violating sacred ground?

What did he actually do or alledgedly do to become so high-profile?

Today may be the high noon that has procrastinated for too long. All over international news that the police are poised to enter the Wat and will knock down any resistance according to police spokesman.

I am the boss and dont you forget it.  OK.

Maybe tomorrow i am resting today.

They do not require a special order to arrest Dhammachyo.

Arrest warrants already issued.

The law is clear. No reason for a special order.

His only order to police and DSI (after they failed so ridiculously) could be. "You know the law. You know your job. Do it!"

I think someone misplaced the arrest warrant.

Phra Dhammachayo has carefully nurtured support within the uniformed security services over a number of years. Prayut doesn't want to use the military in case there's bloodshed or the supporters stop them from entering - embarrassing. He wants to use the police in case there are any repercussions. However, the police are corrupt, inept, cowardly and not trained to be policemen.

What reason has been pre-planned for their withdrawal?  Insufficient manpower? Mislaid arrest warrant?  He has sent out a message that he will surrender in the forseeable future?  He is too ill to be moved?   He's got nothing to wear?  They have lost the key to the spaceship?  The new Abbott confirms that he is no longer there?   Hey, the last one has a bit of a ring to it
