Thank you guzzi! Although the insect looks very scary it's not and very, very slow! I took it with my camera Konica Minolta with a focal length  of 42.9 mm.

 

Unfortunately there was a very lousy service in BKK and I had to switch-over to a Canon. (I worked 10 years for Minolta Camera in Holland)

I had some of them in the back of my pickup:

...and in my garden:

But when I looked closer at what they were doing, it was obvious they were stripping the fresh green off the tree branches:

...which turned this tree:

So now I forget the camera, reach for the pruning shears and slice and dice them ASAP.
