CHANATHIP SONGKRASIN’S father advised him not to let his emotions get the better of him after the J-League-bound national midfielder became so upset with a nickname mainstream media gave him that he took to social media to vent his anger.

Chanathip’s outburst came after he was labelled “Little Monkey Gets Auntie” by the Sports Reporters-Photographers Association of Thailand when they announced the annual list of nicknames for people in sporting circles.

In Chanathip’s case, the nickname was in reference to his relationship with TV star Pichanart “May” Sakakorn, who is older than him. Their romance has caused a stir since the actress admitted in August that they were dating.

And then comes Daddy to the rescue to apologise for him. Pffftt.

da-da didums

Lovely couple.

Though he does seem friendly with the step-daughter.

Good on him.

Journalist <deleted> thinking they can abuse others and get away with it.

I've got a nickname for them.

4 letters singular and 5 plural. One vowel.

Know in some circles as the "c bomb" (hard c consonant)

"I would like to apologise [to everyone]. Hopefully, it all ends now. He has done something wrong. I knew it. Please, accept my apology for what he did,”

All he he did was call out the journalist tossers.

He's got nothing to apologise for.

Sports players all over the world may be particularly well-paid, privileged, feted and have opportunities ordinary people do not.

They are also continually set up, led on, deliberately would up, criticised and made fun of by sports journalists desperate for a headline in the ever-shortening news cycle.

It is important for these people to get media training so they can deal with this initially upsetting form of harassment and public mockery.

Swings and roundabouts.
