NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: -- FLOOD VICTIMS in Muang district of Nakhon Si Thammarat are facing an additional health hazard after floodwaters washed away a large pile of garbage, carrying the filthy mixture into neighbourhoods.

Local people have reported getting blisters after wading through contaminated floodwaters near their homes.

“This health threat has already affected more than 150 families. It may hit more victims because floodwaters are massive this time,” Watchara Chumtham, the kamnan of Tambon Na Sai, said yesterday.

Nakhon Si Thammarat has been flooded for about a week after southern provinces were hit by torrential rain.

You have to admit that despite an almost complete lack of infrastructure regarding flood protection, sewage and garbage disposal and law enforcement, Thailand is a great place to live.

Garbage management is a huge problem in Thailand. The nice city of Hua Hin is poluted every day by clouds of toxic smoke from numerous fires where people burn garbage illegally within the city area. Once this problem is raised it can seriously effect tourism in Hua Hin and elsewhere. And no wonder cancer cases raise seriously within the Thai population.

I have always been wary of the the brown water here and other countries.

Coming from a country that for most part has blue water that i have seen most of my life it's hard for me to believe that water here is safe to wade into.

Could be just sediment causing the color. Just don't know.

Much better to let the caustic garbage seep down to water table over time.....

I trust this was a totally sarcastic comment ?

Good way for NST Pure Spring Water to differentiate itself from others by giving it a local flavour. Consumers can then spend hours discussing flavour of what.

Perrier started the trend years ago by adding toluene at no extra charge.

Lesson to be learned here. Choose your living location wisely.

every year it floods,     every year no measures are taken to  prevent it (  dealing with the cause of the runoff, by preparing proper drainage)
