CDC can't confirm if elections will take place as scheduled

BANGKOK, 10 January 2017 (NNT) - Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) Chairman Meechai Ruchupan said he could not confirm whether the general elections would take place this year as planned.

The CDC Chairman said a specific date for the general elections could not be set as the National Legislative Assembly has yet to approve the draft constitution or the organic law on political parties.

He added it will also depend on the readiness of the political parties and the Election Commission of Thailand. However, Meechai claimed, if all goes according to the road map, it could be held either late this year or at the beginning of 2018.

The CDC Chairman declined to comment if the election would be postponed until the middle of next year, claiming the constitution only provides a time frame. He further stated that the government also appointed a committee to help the CDC expedite the deliberation process of the draft constitution and the organic laws.

This whole "The elections will take place this year" and "They won't be held this year" is bouncing around a like a beach ball at a Nickelback concert. Safe to say it ain't happening anytime soon.

That long eh...

Well the CDC should know especially as reported in TV today that the Constitution needs to be rewritten which will cause further delay.

One really has to wonder what the Thai people were voting for last year especially when the Constitution can be rewritten after the vote on it.

No wonder so few went to the polling stations as it becomes more and more obvious their opinions counted for very little.

Deleted, afterthoughts!

Well, whether they are held this year or in 2022 I can confirm that they won't matter as the old elite has rigged the whole system in their favour.

Thats quite a statement. The junta has done everything to date to stifle them. When the official election alarm goes off many parties will barely have time to get their pants on.

This is poor Meechai's third (or fourth) Constitution. Maybe he's starting to get confused? Seems like there is a lot he can't do?

This feller from the CDC might not be able to confirm but I can the the answer is that there won't be.

Sorted.

After he just said elections could be held this year.

Seems Prayut may have given him a little personal attitude adjustment to stop commenting on when elections will occur.
