Hi folks, I have been asked to help develop some new English courses for a small new lingo school.

There are two groups of students and we need to structure courses for both with course materials and outlines.

Group 1: mainly age 20 -45 male business owners, IT savvy, interested in developing their English skills (conversation and writing/reading). These business people prefer one-2-one tuition.

Group 2:mainly age 16-25 female employees wanting to improve their English skills to connect with foreigners. They would prefer to learn in a class with other students. Group discussion is important for them.

A Business English course sounds appropriate for Group 1 and Beginners & Intermediate English Conversation course may work well for Group 2, but maybe you can suggest other options.

Also, how about course materials? Which materials, eg IELTS etc and where to obtain them?

Any input would definitely appreciated.

When you are out and about, grab any and all brochures, maps, menus, etc., grab ten or twenty of them. We had a real loser in my last school from the USA, but he collected these things and used them with adults as well as higher level high school students. It worked like a charm, real life tools to teach and learn English. Some had multiple errors, others were professionally done. The guy is gone now and left a pile of the stuff which even I found useful and I'm very skeptical.

So he was a loser, his aids worked well, so well that you now use them - so how was he a loser?

Beginners & Intermediate English Conversation course may work well for Group 2,..

For this level of adult student, I often use the Cambridge KET and PET course material.  One advantage of following this course is that the students can then sit the Cambridge exam (typically at a British Council centre), and obtain a recognised qualification of their competence in English.

Group discussion is important for them.

The KET and PET use group/pair conversations, and students are assessed in the exam on their competence in pair discussion.

Even the ladies on lower Sukhumvit in Bangkok under the walkways and out in front of Thermae wouldn't go on a date with him. No social skills or grace. Came to Thailand with only a self carry suitcase(no wheels) and no money for apartment deposits. Ate like a pig. Thought students actually liked him as a person. Hit on younger Thai teachers thinking once again had the charm to do so. Need I go on muzmurray? I feel for the guy, but he is better off back at Walmart stocking shelves. Never harmed anyone BTW and do admire him for trying. I"m not one who usually labels people but this guy wasn't a good fit here. God Bless Him and you.

Roll bags

I've only owned one roll bag in my life and it's back in the States. Forbidden my wife to have one as well. People that use roll bags are clueless and I've no problem kicking their bags if they roll their bags on my feet. I really have no idea what possesses people with these bags to wholly forget they are dragging a weapon behind them. Then there is all the other inconsideration like dragging them on public transport during rush hour simply because they can.
