BMA draws up nine-step plan to deal with rains

By THE SUNDAY NATION

THE heavy rains expected to hit Bangkok and surrounding areas over the next three days has forced the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to instruct officials to implement a nine-step flood-prevention action plan in a move to minimise damage and public inconvenience.

In response to Interior Minister General Anupong’s instruction that the BMA prepare to handle upcoming wet weather, BMA Governor Pol General Aswin Kwanmuang said he had instructed the Department of Drainage and Sewerage and 50 district offices to implement the action plan.

This includes rainfall updates, the preparation of flood-alleviating equipment such as pumps, lowering water levels at canals and pump station ponds, and keeping related BMA units informed of the situation.

Here Ive  got a simple  plan for them in 9 steps.......give them 9  buckets and show them which end to use...probably still need to  form a committee though

A super committee would be better

I wouldn't trust the weathermen in Thailand as they often get wrong. When they say prepare for heavy rains in Bangkok, expect little or no rain. The weather forecast predicts isolated thundershowers, nothing close to heavy rains that could cause havoc.

This 9 point plan is a joke. The only point that makes sense is to lower the waterlevels in advance - but then a child would now that. The rest of the points should have been in place for many years - why else have an organization in the first place?

I could add a 10th point to the plan: Employ some people with actual knowledge of watermanagement.

I've heard of some Dutch companies that seem to be doing quite nicely, keeping the water out at 18 feet below sealevel.

The Thai Met Department were warning of this event last week, so the plan now is to implement the usual last-minute buck(et) passing !!!

Wonder if Anupong will be the one to carry the "can" if the water rises higher than nine steps ???

Of course, they can always blame Sukhumbhand.

When i look at the weatherforecast i don't see any heavy rain coming to BKK. Tuesday we'll get some drops but nothing to be scared for it seems.

There you go, clearly the plan is working already. Well done to the chaps.

Im glad they waited until a few days before flooding to draft up a good ol' plan - thats real foresight.  Heres an idea.  Draft one up years before and actually implement it properly :shock1:

Empty the drains of debris, rubbish and silt would also help to keep streets drained.

The rain making squad should have stopped flying missions much earlier.

And military issued khaki octagInal umbrellas for all. 8 points plus one in the middle.

Step one is the above. Step nine is getting er done. 7 other steps in between.

As my old Mum used to say "I've heard ducks fart before".

lovely sunny day

Tuesday is expected to have 1.5mm of rain!

It sure needs good planning to deal with that 1.5mm of water!!

:cheesy:

Bring back science minister Plod, And his boats.! Also well known for his failed wild animal restaurant.

If there is no rain or very little rain, as apparently expected, they will be able call the plan a complete success.  Now that is good planning for you!

Step 1, wait for it to flood.

Step 2, establish a committee to work out steps 3-9.
