No, salt and saliva can not be used to smash your car window, despite what Thai social media says

BANGKOK: -- A video of a simple five second car theft has been doing the rounds of Thai social media.

The thief throws something at side window that breaks - he then reaches in and grabs a bag and it is all over.

But what did he throw?

Lots of Thais online subscribe to an urban myth that a lump of rock salt covered in saliva was used to break the window.

Many of almost a quarter of a million views thought it was possible to break a car window with a handful of salt.

The story seems to be based on a 2014 clip of a crime reenactment from Indonesia where a man uses bits from the ceramic section of a motorcycle spark plug to break a car window.

If they're going about breaking car windows, why not just use one of these handy pocket tools....

Same result without the Shaolin temple drama....:coffee1:

This trick is 20 years old and finally now they know it in Thailand?

Some years later came the trick with a tennisball and a mercedes with central locks.

Some more years later the trick with hot and cold on a lock.

Then they started stealing the airbags and now they steal the xenon headlights.

The raw egg method is simpler (although a bit messier)

and there's no need to wait to approach your empty locked vehicle...

Dude is driving along, when egg(s) thrown onto window

During the excitement , the driver doesn't notice person ahead standing on the road,

as he is already busy hitting the wiper switch, to try to clear the windscreen of the yellow mess

BIG Mistake!!!

I don't know if you have heard what happens when you try to use wipers. to clear away broken eggs

but the result is instant unclearable smearing, that is impossible to look through...

Driver stops, and opens door to get out for to clear the mess...

Driver gets attacked by dudes, who now no longer need to bother breaking the window

The last time it ever happened to me,

was when quite fortunately the egg(s) were thrown by our child's fellow students,

while we were beginning to drive off after picking them up from school

but the theory works perfectly in practice
