BANGKOK: -- The body of a man suspected to be that of a missing Japanese tourist was plucked from a klong in Bang Kor Laem district on Sunday by rescue workers.

Police said that the victim was about 163-168 cm tall with long curly hair, tan complexion with a Little Ghost cartoon tattoo on the left side of his torso. Police added that there were no wounds on the body which would suggest that the victim was assaulted.

Found in the body were four 20-baht banknotes, one two-baht coin and one-baht coin and one stainless ring.

The Japanese tourist, Sonamu Tsuboi, lost contact with his parents in Japan since December 27. He didn’t show up at Suvarnabhumi international airport to meet his girlfriend who arrived from Japan to see him.

BANGKOK: -- POLICE HAVE FOUND a body believed to be that of a 21-year-old Japanese tourist who had been reported missing. The parents of Sonam Tsuboi, 21, will attempt to identify the remains today.

The parents had been searching for Tsuboi in Mae Hong Son province’s Pai district, which he had visited before, since earlier this month.

They were still in Pai yesterday when they learned that the recovered corpse of an unidentified man had a tattoo on the left ankle that matched their son’s.

Tsuboi reportedly had a history of depression.

my thoughts exactly

Unfortunately, more sad for him.

I think the article got it slightly wrong, if there were no wounds on the body that would suggest ....no assault took place.....not the contrary as the article states.

Missing Japanese tourist may have taken own life

BANGKOK: -- The Japanese tourist who went missing almost a month ago and his body found and plucked from a canal in Bangkok yesterday might have committed suicide, police investigators said today.

The theory that Mr Sonamu Tsuboi took his own life was revealed by police after they found a CCTV camera capturing him walking at Bang Lumpu junction near the Rama 8 bridge before disappeared, prompting the police to suspect he might jump into the river in a suicide bid.

A body was later plucked from a klong in Bang Kor Laem district on Sunday by rescue worker, and initial examination suspected that it might be the missing Japanese tourist.

The body was identified by his parents who arrived from Japan today to claim the body at Siriraj hospital’s morgue.

Very sad end to this story, not sure I buy the suicide side of it.  More likely "an unexplained death" but that would leave it open to questions and more work for the BIB.  I know I am being cynical but...

This is a tricky one. Firstly no money involved. Secondly it could not possibly be a Thai perpetrator. So ok ok was either suicide or a nasty foreigner. Another nail in the coffin for TAT. Maybe more stringent law reforms from little P. Or maybe TAT can use a ACDC sound track for there TV promos.

Could be a typo.  Police added that there were no wounds on the body which would suggest that the victim was assaulted.

Delete no

He seemed in fear given statements from his search bid by his family. Way too much of this crap happening to protect tourism? being known as suicide capital of world is not appealing to tourists either.

They didn't say that there were no wounds on the body. There could be wounds on the body, but none that appeared to have come from an assault.
"Police added that there were no wounds (of the sort that would appear to have come from an assault) on the body which (such wounds, if they existed) would suggest that the victim was assaulted." That is, there were no wounds suggestive/indicative of an assault. English is fun :P

Suicide lol what a police force. One can only despise these people. Useless and rotten the very core. Must be dissolved all heads terminated.

Are you claiming that it wasnt suicide ?

Are you basing that on anything or is it just a usual reply ?

Seriously who decides to drown them self? Not sure you followed this thread too long but this one is very iffy. Guy was supposed to meet his GF in airport in jan if I recall correctly, began doubting she should come citing some issues at time which sounded relative to his demise. Point is with so much info and exposure the police should not be pointing at anything other than it being an ongoing investigation.

Suicidal people ?

He told her NOT to come to meet him . The RTP said they believe he committed suicide and all the evidence suggests that he did , simply saying that suicidal people do not drown themselves . so this cannot be suicide is incorrect, because suicidal people do choose to end it with drowning themselves

It's a rare choice of suicide and the occurrences of suicides or deaths which are happening here is getting wild. The chap who drowned himself and cut himself and weighed himself down in the sea but wrote a lovely message to his gf, the chap who drowned himself with a golf bag or something. Farang deaths shows a grim account of deaths and the amount which point to suicide is worrying.

Amazing that, apparently, so many people decide to take a holiday in Thailand before committing suicide.  Why? It also seems sensible to question whether the rate is is a true and accurate figure, or if it is inflated by murders disguised as "suicides". Perpetrators might be encouraged by the lackadaisical attitude of authorities normally seen as responsible for getting to the truth of such incidents.  How hard would it be for one person motivated  by greed when an opportunity presents itself (through drunkenness or sheer naivety) to encourage two or three mates to overcome a struggling individual and then toss them off a high place or hold their heads in a bucket of water for three minutes before careful disposal in a backwater klong or the sea? Seems too easy in so many locations. As people have noted on other threads, professional hitmen can be recruited for 3,000 B here; why bother when D.I.Y. provides a ready, relatively easy profit?
