UDD ready to sign MoU on reconciliation

BANGKOK: -- The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) is ready to sign the government’s proposed Memorandum of Understanding on Reconciliation provided that the content of the document is based on the principles of justice and equality, said UDD chairman Jatuporn Promphan.

He also said that the red-shirt movement has no objection to military personnel joining the reconciliation panel.

“I feel that if reconciliation is not restored, the next election will be problematic,” said Jatuporn, adding that the issues of amnesty or Royal pardon for certain offenders should be put to rest if most agree that they should not talk about them.

Government spokeman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, meanwhile, maintained that reconciliation issue was not a government’s gamble as portrayed by the media.

I understand that this goon is the president of the red shirts....so I'm guessing that then makes him the PT party leader?....and if so, as party leader if they happen to win, would he be PM? :))

They are all goons.   Some are just elected.  And the red voting block in the north and east was 40% or more in the past.  We shall see fairly soon how the junta did in winning the hearts and minds of the people.  Threats will probably be the junta's campaign strategy.

Doubt this fellow will be the front man.

Latest polls don't seem good for the PTP and allies. (but then again what do polls say)

Accurate polls? In Thailand?

Was an article in the BKK post a few days ago, showed that PTP was doing worse than the democrats. Now given what we saw in other countries (Brexit, Thrump, ect) I don't hold much faith in polls anymore.

You think Prayut is going to allow publication of any poll that reflects badly on him or his aims?

Nope, in that area he is the same as every other Thai government before him. Never seen a poll going against a government in power. That is why i said I don't hold much faith in them.Still will be interesting to see. The PTP has been out of power and income streams for a long time their strangle hold loosened so I expect them to do worse. We will see interesting times ahead. Would only hope they really do hold an election this year.

I'm betting on the 2010 replay. Maybe not this year, given the main event, but not too far away

You are saying violent red shirts on the streets after they can't form a government ? Lets hope not have got my belly full of them. Let them occupy Chang Mai or something like that.

Anyway I really doubt the military will allow them to go on the streets in BKK. No way.

I hope you've made contingency plans then

I doubt it will happen, the army will be far more in control and we learned from the past. Just won't happen. But interesting times ahead, i'm curious what will happen. I really do wonder if the PTP is finally broken or not.

I can see the army allowing them to shut down Chang Mai as a compromise.. but never again in BKK. They have too much face to lose.

The Photo in the OP

an idiot and 5 growlers that think they are powerful and want to rule something

How unusual for people in politics to seek power..

At least a mandate from the electorate is required, unlike if you are the army.

No he isn't. He was appointed President of the UDD, as all the other leaders were appointed. No elections were ever held and no one ever admitted how they were appointed. Draw your own conclusion.

PTP has a different party leader. Not to be confused with their former PM. Yingluck was chosen as PM by their MP's but was never the PTP leader. That was a different appointment. Jatuporn was a PTP party list MP. He voiced his desire to be a Minister or Deputy Minister like his friend and also non elected UDD leader and fellow PTP party list MP Nat.

Now has to who appoints the UDD leadership, the PTP leader, the PTP party list MP's - well, maybe the person who owns them?

Don't think Jatuporn has a mandate from the UDD membership. His Presidential office was gifted to him by a benefactor.

Who out of those pictured are in politics? All of them. That is why the junta want them to sign off on this 'reconciliation' flapdoodle that they themselves will not sign.

I'm getting you think I am a (bit of a) knob, so why not just say that? It looks better than trying and failing to be witty.

Not really, Chang Mai is powerbase of reds let them cause trouble there. Why should they inconvenience the good people of BKK again and again. They did enough trouble in the pas. I also don't want any yellows out on the street now its time for some sensibility.  If either side want to protest let them so do without bothering the silent majority that has enough from their lives getting disrupted.

It will be seen, hopefully, in the not too distant future, that your so-called "silent majority" is, in fact, largely composed of red shirts.

Thanks i needed a laugh and it was a good one too.. took me a while to pick myself up laughing. The red shirts have never been a real majority they will never be one either.

Anyway lets agree to hope for a fast election.

Same agency that predicted Clinton would win in the USA

I don't recall a Thai opinion pollster asking Thais who they thought would win the US presidential election, and even if they did what value it would have

Not so.

The UDD is NOT a political party but the PTP is/was.

They are different entities and whilst some members of the UDD were MPs and ministers in the last PTP government, Jatuporn was not selected even from the PTP party list.

There is a minute chance that at the next election, if an unelected person were to be chosen for PM it could be him but not really likely.
