PHUKET: -- Two Thai women were injured on Friday (Jan 20) when a branch from a pine tree fell on them as they relaxed at Nai Yang Beach on Phuket’s west coast.

At 3pm on Friday, Phuket Lifeguard Ekkarat Keawrak, 31, who was patrolling Nai Yang Beach, heard two women screaming, and ran to their assistance and discovered one woman, said to be between 45-50 years old, with blood pouring from her head.

The second woman, said to be first woman’s daughter and aged between 25-30 years old, had sustained minor injuries to her arms.

Close by was a branch about 70 centimetres long lying on the sand.

Rescue workers who attended the scene administered first aid to the woman with the head injury, but as they could not stem the flow of blood she was taken to Thalang Hospital for further treatment.

Mr Ekkarat said that the second victim told him that she and her mother were relaxing under a pine tree when they suddenly heard a branch snap, the branch fell on them causing their injuries.

As this is the second case reported in a few days, the other one fatal, maybe the authorities will twig on that there is a problem, and branch out to look for a solution.

Looks like the trees are fighting back this week. Reminds me about the movies Birds by Hitchcock.

Unlucky, this, but surprised there aren't more accidents due to the prevalence of trees in beach areas, coupled with high winds and dodgy maintenance. A crackdown on trees will hopefully root out the problem.

doubt  it,  between  their  ears is  full of ..................wood

Do you also sense the striking anomaly here?

Close by was a branch about 70 centimeters long lying on the sand. >  so again the culprit did NOT flee the scene!

Could there really be sort of betterment or is it just wishful thinking ...?

They wont last long once the chainsaws come out...expect a Thailand chainsaw (tree) massacre.

1,2 on Imdb. Just wonder if they are going to use fossil fueled chainsaws, or if they are going with the environmental friendly electric ones.
If using the electric ones, maybe they get better "contact" with the audience.

Will they twig what's happening or simply leaf everything alone?

This is a cover-up for a family argument that got out of hand.

I think you may be barking up the wrong tree:saai:

Usually they can find a human breathing person to blame. I wonder who and what they will come up with to blame.

All the breaking news that happens....

Next week... "man gets papercut while conpleting immigration card".

maybe they could hang more cables on the beachfront trees to help them with their wind resistance problem
