BANGKOK, 25 January 2017 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has congratulated a Thai youth, who won the international Quran reading competition in Sudan.

Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) Supanat Sirantawineti led the winner Hasan Samoh, to meet with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Hasan, an 18-year-old boy from Pattani province, won 1.4 million baht in the Khartoum International Holy Quran Award held in Khartoum, Sudan, on January 13th.

The Prime Minister praised Hasan for bringing prestige to the nation by winning an international competition. He encouraged the young man to continue working hard and for senior citizens, children, and youngsters to help create peace in the society.

You know, it was all I could do to stop myself going to Khartoum; the suspense was killing me.

More reassuring though to me and probably internationally would have been the announcement of the winner of the 'Muslim reader of the best Muslim lecture denouncing ISIS and Sharia Law' competition.

You can't have everything; at least the photo' includes Christian Man of the Cloth and Michael Jackson look-a-likes.

Hassan the man.

I know that the southern insurgency is a major worry and is a heart breaking crisis effecting millions of people. But Will these photo opportunities taken by the Prime Minister help bring about a solution? We know its not Muslims that cause terror, its terrorists that cause terror. When will a peace deal be drawn up between the terrorists and the government? That meeting is worth a photo.

Nice and sensible post, tukky ... Well, these photos may not bring about a solution, but they sure can do no harm in that direction, can they ? Whatever one thinks of the PM, and whatever he thinks of Islam, at least he did a responsible thing here, so let's give him that.

The problem in the South has been going on through a number of governments, so obviously the roots of that problem are deep. Is this government doing better than its predecessors ? Seems to me that it's actually very hard to tell and 'information' may be available but the truth is not.

The only sure thing is that Thaksin's stance was a total disaster, especially in the Tak Bai massacre, which would be enough to send him straight to hell, and for which he never expressed the slightest regret.

Must've put some real dedication to it, perhaps it was this quote:

Quote

Quran (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority".

Or one of the other gems with heads rolling and all that fun stuff.

While the South suffers hardships from floods and Prayut calls for Thai people to send donations, maybe Prayut can give the youth a ride in his 13 billion baht submarine.

Reading or quoting?

It's considered quite the honour to be able to commit the whole of the Koran to memory.  Interesting thing is there are parts of it that are not/were never Arabic.  An actual scholarly investigation into the book as a whole by an outside, non-affiliated, party has never been undertaken for obvious reasons.

Fifth in Scrabble (https://is.gd/o6giiu), and now a first in the reading of the Quran.

It's fitting that Prayut should praise "...Hasan for bringing prestige to the nation by winning an international competition...".

But, then he reverts back to type, "...encouraged the young man to continue working hard and for senior citizens, children, and youngsters to help create peace in the society...".

Well, there you go !!!

And there are some (critics) on this forum who lambaste the rest of us for allegedly using it to push OUR own agendas.

PM congratulates Thai Quran reading winner

It is a major step forward and commitment to the Islamic future of Thailand - the Koran has now been translated into the world-leading Thai language ready for the future.

I don't recognise the lady in the red dress. Does anyone out there know her?

Believe her name is Sue. Hard to tell in the red tent but that is the idea...covert operations. Looks like she's from that family named Sidebommer.

Except in modern society, only one group is still barbaric enough to continue the process. Then there's that whole Sharia Law thing...

Wow, you really dug deep for that one, didn't you?

Nope.

Though why I didn't mention the extra judicial slaughter currently taking place in the Philippines is something I'll never know.

And when they carry out this slaughter, the name which imaginary friend is loudly chanted?

More blatant lies and propaganda by Prayuth and his Junta and he stands for a photo and puts on that silly grin.  The Thai kids didn't win the international competition.

Jasim Khalifa Ibrahim Khalifa Hamdan from Bahrain, Abdullah Al-Mamum from Bangladesh, and Abdul Rahman Abdul Jalil Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Jahati from Libya respectively won the first to the third ranks in this contest, which was held on Thursday.

Hussein Samuh from Thailand, Abdullah Salim Batil Batil from Panama, Muhammad Hassan Malik Diyub from Senegal, Faruq Shahin from Turkey and Ibrahim Ismail Ibrahim from Niger were the other participants in the sideline competition.

Your link refers to a 2016 competition held in Dubai, when the OP is about one held this year in Sudan.  I'd give the international online forum reading competition a miss if I were you.
