''What do you mean i'm being arrested...don't you know who i am ? ''   Lol.

Common thief; should be locked up for three or four years in Japan as a lesson to other Thai 'Diplomats' who think they are untouchable.

Japan probably just deported the thief and blacklisted him from returning.  Now Thailand says they will investigate the situation upon his retun. A transfer to another ministry, a inactive post, or some other position where past criminal activity is not really considered in determining the value of a persons contribution to the honest part of society.

You mean he's going to join the police?

The consensus of opinion in my office (all Thai staff) is that he will not be punished upon his return -too well connected. Business as usual.

Sounds right. You can get caught trying to take a loaded gun onto a plane in your hand luggage and not be punished when back here. So nicking a few paintings isn't going to worry anyone. The loss of face will hurt though. Wait for the excuse.

If ever there is anything that epitomises the hypocracy of the nefarious "civil" service of Thailand so succinctly, this has to be it !!!

The deputy director general of the country's Department of Intellectual Property caught stealing someone else's property.

The paintings may have be cheap, but this deed is priceless !!!

I just hope we are spared the welcoming party of sycophants complete with the little girl presenting him with a bunch of flowers upon his return to Thailand, whenever that maybe.

I'm referring to the cop who was caught in Japan with the gun on the plane some time back, it made me want to be violently ill.

Indeed! It matches the Director of the National Innovation Agency plagiarising his PhD (fake) thesis. (a complete lack of innovation if ever seen)

I wanna see the pic with a bunch of coppers pointing at him.

Say what? In Japan the emphasis is on the criminal arrested and not the police who arrested him? Huh. What's in it for the police, then?

Most officials here are shameless. Shameless. They'll take anything that isn't nailed down. Cheat and take shortcuts at every opportunity. Take maximum advantage of every situation. Abuse their positions to put the fruits of their loins into special school programs they have no business getting into, allow them to stay home every day, and then blame their teachers for it.

Hitting parked vehicles and then driving off is another old standby. These experiences are collected from a public school, mind you, where the teachers are meant to be moral guides for the next generation.

Kind of brings back fond memories of the BKK police chief who got caught carrying a pistol in Japan when going to board his return flight to Thailand, and ended up spending some time in a Japanese jail until he was finally sent back to Thailand.

Then, upon his return, there was much made about launching an investigation into how he came by the gun, which was illegal to have and buy in Japan, and then talk of consequences here.  And then, and then, and then... NOTHING. Disappeared into the huge inventory of swept-under-the-rug, ignored wrongdoings by various authorities.

Actions like these speak volumes of senior Thai officialdom, over entitled putz.

Another fine example of a guy who shows the world the true Thai spirit. I wonder if he knew the words: "Do you know who I am in Japanese".

You can bet your bottom dollar (or perhaps your last yen) that were he not an "important official" then neither an interpreter nor a lawyer would be provided.

Painting of porn star Saori Hara rumored to be one of artworks stolen by Thai senior official

A painting of Japanese porn star Saori Hara was rumored to be one of three paintings stolen from a Japanese hotel by a Thai director-general who has since been arrested.

The Japanese media identified the Thai senior official as Suphat Saguandeekul, director-general of Department of Intellectual Property, while Thai officials still refuse to print his name.
