How long would 20k (Australian) last in Thailand?

I know it's quite a broad/vague question, but for context I'm doing some long term travel through SE Asia. But eventually looking to spend a prolonged period of time in Bangkok almost as a hub of sorts and play it by ear from there (as it's a great central location to get flights to other parts of SE Asia).

current conversion is around 535,000 thb

I would plan to stay in pretty basic accomodation and happy to eat street food majority of the time. Would go out clubs/pubs more so on weekend if anything, not a massive party guy.

According to the budget I laid out, that amount of money after rent, food and other expenses should get me around 9 months give or take. Would that be in the ballpark?

If you are talking baht, likely lucky to get weekend to weekend...............................

In that case, given your stated lifestyle that should cover 9 months comfortably, especially if parts of these are outside of Bangkok.

So we are at about 60k Baht per month (based on 9 months).

Doable if you ask me.

Be aware about the high rollers who will tell you that live with less than 200k per month is unthinkable

The reason for my post is I'm seeing if I could stretch it out further if possible... I'd ideally like to stay much longer, but if that's the case I might have to settle for 9 months :(

I reckon you could stretch that out to a year. A long term rentals, not much drinking, or drink at home then head out for the promotions. If you can get by without some western food. Have you thought about pattaya as a base, cheaper than BKK.

If you do not fall in love with a bar-girl who has a sick mother and dying buffalos, the money will last you at least 9 to 12 months.

If you do fall in love with one, you will have to transfer more for the wedding, house, car etc. (around 1-2 weeks after you first meet)

Yes, factor in a bar girl, 3 months tops.

If you want BKK as a hub to travel to other Asian countries, you may want to check the rates compared to KL and Singapore. I'm flying a lot in Asia and Oz and it's often attractive to fly to KL or Singapore first and do the trip from there. Singapore is not cheap to stay, but KL is very similar to BKK with cheaper beer and a better variety of street and foodcourt food.

I read your headline so knew you were talking about Australian dollars.

That amount should comfortably see you through 15 months if you have no health or bar girl problems.

Not very long if you didn't do your research and ask questions on financial scams, honey traps, pick pockets, jewelry thefts and more.

If you are a sex addict, and alcoholic the cash will go even quicker! But, you will have a great time.

Good luck!

My spending over the last 4 years has averaged AUD $75 per day in Samui. That includes bar drinking most days, with or without a woman but little western food. Plenty of cheap Thai restaurants when you do not have a woman cooking for you, actually the costs are similar.

If you were to travel around a bit and find a place you like and rent a house as a base.. shop in the markets and eat street food... travel from there you could last a long time..  I've lived here for almost 10 years on 60K (TBt) a month and have built a house and go back to Oz for a couple of months each year.. and travel around a bit.. If you want to live in one of the tourist trap hot spots a party it up.. that is a different story..

The headline says 20k Australian and his conversion of B535,000 seems to be correct in AUSD

I say you will have no problem making it last 9 months. That is

unless you try to party like a two week millionaire. The big and

very deep hole in a budget to stay in Thailand is entertainment.

It is a bottomless pit.

If you buy a car then 1 or 2 days depending on a brand new or a second hand one.

If you eat only 2 instant noodle soups a day then longer....
