Awful service, annually has gotten worse and the price has increased over the years. What a great business plan that is. Try getting your deposit back off them. Your Buddhism will be tested.

The best thing I did was say goodbye over a year ago and signed for expat tv. The wife can't believe she use to watch such slop but as there are little local alternatives, it isn't a surprise.

Can you expand on EXPAT tv a little for me Laughing Gravy?

Well, this is getting just ridiculous.   Appears True is going to delete the majority of the foreign channels.    I guess foreign TV is not wanted in the little Thailand universe.   Plus, foreign channels shows Thais the world outside of Thailand....current government will secretly applaud True's move.

Will other channels be added in lieu of the ones being removed? If not will the monthly cost be lowered to reflect this?

such an amazing business strategy; you give us money and we give you almost nothing, and if you are lucky we will give you even less next month.:vampire:

But works great for monopolies used to putting up prices if people complain or business drops off.

True Visions to close another 11 cable channels

900_True1.jpg

BANGKOK: -- True Visions has notified the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) that it will stop airing 11 channels after the cable broadcaster stopped broadcasting six channels last December.

Ms Supinya Klangnarong, one of the commissioners, said Wednesday that the 11 channels that will be blacked out include Discovery Science, BBC Entertainment, National Geographic, Cheebies, Discovery Kids, M, DMAX, EVE, Block A and Fashion.

Two of the six channels that stopped airing last month are HBOs and Cinemax.

Ms Supinya said that committee had not yet allowed True Visions to stop airing the 11 channels because the company has to submit its plan on how to compensate its subscribers who have subscribed to different packages offered by the company from three-month up to one-year and have paid in advance.

She said that the NBTC’s sub-committee would invite True Visions’ executives to explain its compensation plan on February 7.

NBTC should force True to let anyone that wants to cancel their contract to do so on the day without any fees or anything because with 17 channels that they canceled in one and a half months True have already broken what they promised to deliver when people signed their contracts!

But all of those channels were already dropped, why the announcement now?

Because they are in trouble because they did not give the 30 days notice to subscribers. I lost BBC entertainment last year with no notice from TrueMisery TV. They gave me one month free and Platinum is now open for view to Gold Subscribers supposedly as compensation for losing HBO. But this is BS since each year January is the month they unscramble Platinum as a promotion to get subscribers to upgrade their subscriptions. I am in True Misery without HBO and BBC Entertainment so I a waiting to see from HBO who their new partner in Thailand will be.

So six of the eleven 'dropped' channels were dropped at the end of last year, but "Ms Supinya said that committee had not yet allowed True Visions to stop airing the 11 channels"?  She must have missed that six have already been dropped?

True are now saying they are going to drop another five channels?

and THIS + repeats and other nonsense is why I'm saying a 'GOODBYE'  to True after many years and I hope many thousands of others do the same.

Monopolies get lazy, fat and rich and deserve a kick in the goolies.

I gave them the elbow. Rude, arrogant and now no decent channels.

I bought a 5g 100mbps download/ 20mbps upload service from AIS Via FIBRE OPTIC for 899/month.

Got myself a VorkeZ1 octa-core 64bit, 32 GB ROM (plus SD card expansion) 3GB DDR 4 RAM, DUAL BAND WIFI 2.4Ghz/5Ghz, Bluetooth 4.0/3.0, Android 6.0, Kodi 17.0 (plus a load of others) 4K UHD video, Including remote for $150.00.

(I have 4 left, if anyone wants PM me)

Now I don't have to put up with any more nonsense from True and I get to watch everything they had and MUCH MUCH more.

Happy days!! ??

There was a thread on the Phuket forum a while ago about AIS offering fibre optic internet access to 'remote' Phuket areas - and I finally got round to 'phoning them at the beginning of this year.  Only to be told, it wasn't yet available where I live .

Unless they are avid fans of the goddam awful Lifetime channel or Larry The Cable Guy on H2, of course!

Well, they take Nat-Geo off, that's the final nail.

I just worked out that I have paid these lot (UBC/True) 307,320 baht since September 1999. Doesn't sound much and to be honest, not much was received either.

Time for a different approach for the wife's Thai channels and my online viewing pleasures

"Supinya Klangnarong, a member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), revealed via her twitter account last night that the Broadcasting Committee Tuesday received a request letter from True Visions that the company wanted to discontinue its 11 channels namely Discovery Science, BBC Entertainment, National Geographic, Cbeebies, Discovery Kids, M, DMAX, EVE, Block A, Fashion1 and MUTV but the details on effective date has not been disclosed yet."

A letter which has been sent after the event in the case of Discovery Science, BBC Entertainment, Cbeebies, DMAX and EVE, of course.

And I'm not aware that M, Block A, Fashion1 or MUTV were included in any of True's packages in any event.

So this would just appear to leave National Geographic and Discovery Kids to be culled, on the basis the info provided by the good lady referred to in the OP, I think.

Unfortunately its not that easy for those of us with 'dodgy'/slow internet access .

Can't agree with your claim about price increases. My gold package has not varied from 1568.12 Baht since I contracted in 2002. In fact I believe the 4000 Baht deposit I payed then on the hardware has decreased to 2000 Baht since.

In saying that I will be VERY PISSED to loose 'National Geographic' (not a movie buff so didn't care about HBO and the like). We finally have affordable 4G networks here in the remote rice paddies of Isaan so definitely looking at streaming alternatives thinking that my association with TrueVisions/UBC in on borrowed time!

Yep, there is that, and I think that will restrict a lot of people..

Fortunately, I have extremely good (for Thailand) internet connections up here in Phits. In fact, I would say it is better than i have found in Pattaya, Rayong and even Bkk for the same packages.

Let's hope this latest move by True will eventually send them bankrupt. I ditched them YEARS ago. Wouldn't have True in my house if they came begging with free TV for life.

DMAX is already gone. If they stop NGC also then it's time to cancel True.

Yes, about the only reason I stayed on with True Satellite was CNBC and the group of channels like Nat Geo ... well those and baseball & NFL.

Have to see what we end up with, but I'm definitely getting closer to pulling the plug, so to speak.

Seems like it's time for someone to step up and offer a comprehensive, national CATV/SaTV competitive option to the Truevisions/CP monopoly?

Hopefully broadband providers will increase their offers, but maybe they'll move to a PAYG/buffet style?

Sounds like the basics and pay for each addition channel that you want would be a good idea. Never did like this bundling crap.

How about the move was encouraged by the current government?

I think it's quite obvious for some years already where CP's interests lay.
