Bangkok police chief Sanit Mahatavorn warns motorists not to catch Pikachu or other Pokemon while driving on Aug. 21 in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Both the chief of Bangkok police and the nation’s largest beverage company failed to respond to a state watchdog’s demand they clarify their financial relationship.

Sanit Mahatavorn and ThaiBev were given a week to explain whether Sanit was still a paid adviser to the company, which produces alcohol under the Chang and SangSom brands. The deadline expired Thursday.

"The secretary-general of the state ombudsman’s office, Raksagecha Chaechai, said Thursday that his organization would have to discuss its response, saying it could choose to renew its request to both parties."

Seems reasonable to me, just ask again, after all they are busy people.

“If it’s necessary for them to gather documents, they could ask to extend the deadline,” he said Thursday. “But if they neglected to respond, they might not know that’s a criminal offense.”

Possible they did not know it is a criminal offence, may'be the Thaibev team of lawyers missed this. As for the other party involved, how could they expect him to know he is only the Bangkok Pollice Chief.

"His total annual remuneration is 1,425,600 baht per month,"

Nice work if you can get it!

Typo

Crappy reporting as is the norm. I think it's 1,425,600 per year. Still a shocking sum.

Well, it takes time to come up with a proper defamation suit.

Damn press cockroaches ...

Half expecting to read that the Ombudsman has committed suicide with his shoelaces, or contracted some rare blood disorder.

I know he's wealthy, but why the big phone?

Death penalty as from 1billion. No worry. No bpbleeeem

Surely , as with all his underlings and subordinates, he's above the law?

Do as I say, not as I do.

'Do you know who we are?'

No corruption here just another cop doing his main job as his other main job does not pay enought

I thought this was all sorted a week ago and found to be all above board!!

huh?   Annual remuneration  per month??

Let us be fair, I should imagine he is very busy, if not fully committed, to combating the dread threat of the craft brewers.
You may scoff, but the damage caused to society by these wicked evil gangsters could be immense. Not only can buildings disintegrate spectacularly under the pressure of the teeming crowds of rabid drunkards, but the very foundations of the nations commercial, economic and social fabric are threatened by this filthy deviant activity.
I'm sure that when a final victory over these nefarious criminals can be declared (and it may take time - these things do), he will lean back, pour himself a glass of beer, and turn his mind to these minor questions...

Ahh, love to see how things have changed under the Junta rule... NOT.

Same old soup.

Thailand really is a laughing stock of the world. No wonder there is widespread corruption with the Keystone Cops shamefully and openly blunt about accepting bribes.

Corruption is everywhere TIT

Yes, nobody listens to the General.

Wonder who else in government has a side gig with Thai Bev ?  Love their Ginger Ale, not their beer.

London Police Commissioner : £270,648

New York City Police Chief's Salary :  $189,700

What happens if Thai Bev has other highly placed officials doing consulting ?  The good general's remarks regarding brewing beer in toilets was colorful and sadly revealing as to how much of an imbecile and a elitist tool he actually is.

Yep, committed suicide, 3 shots to the head.

This makes a mockery of the present group who are telling us how they are going to get the bad guys hands out of the countries treasury.

Just do not reply & it will all get forgotten. About same as the Thai jet engine "commission"

You wait & see (or not see)

Interesting in this case that the money for this senior policeman comes from Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi's Thai Bev company. That by an astonishing coincidence is the group to whom Prayuth's father sold land for Bt 600 million in 2011.A special offshore company was set up in the British Virgin Islands for this purpose.

Sadly those in high places seem to treat the Ombudsman as someone they can stall or simply ignore.

Several years ago the then Ombudsman asked Yingluck and her number 1 cousin to explain the illegal issuing under special circumstances of new passports to their criminal relation. Yingluck asked for 3 months to answer, then another 3, then said the person working on the answer had changed and she'd need more time. Still no answer and they've given up asking. No fine, no threat of imprisonment. just fades away.

Expect deja vu. Must be frustration being the Ombudsman.

Im pretty sure he has been busy all week, after all he's on the tv nearly every day

This increase in the dissemination and availability of information is a bugger. All these hiso elite "leaders", political and otherwise, around the world are having their "business" revealed to all and sundry.

How they must hate the "information age".

Is this in writing somewhere $40,000 US a month seems a bit extreme and seems to overshadow the 50,000 baht from the beer company. No wonder promotions are up for sale. Its like buying a guaranteed lottery ticket once you hit the top. Then if you use the 1000's of generals multiplication factor it truly gets astounding and unbelievable.
