Trump

BANGKOK: -- THAIS WHO want to visit the United States to work or study have been advised to suspend their plans, probably for four years until Donald Trump finishes his presidency, or give up on their hopes of going to the US, once regarded as the land of freedom.

The Trump administration’s tough policy stance has affected many immigrants in the United States, including Thais, some of whom have worked without the proper documentation.

Those messages were conveyed during a Facebook Live session conducted by Suthichai Yoon, digital journalist with the Nation Multimedia Group, with Thais living in the US to assess the impacts of Trump’s policy, which has been criticised as trying to send home as many immigrants as possible – if not all of them.

The US president has issued an executive order banning travellers from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the US for 90 days and refugees for 120 days, excepting refugees from Syria, whom he would ban indefinitely.

They're right to fear Trump and I'm glad to hear it, if they don't have the proper documentation I hope they're thrown in prison and eventually thrown out of the country at their own expense.

If I was in charge I would do my best to make sure that Thai people could own no land outside of Thailand.

As far as I'm concerned Thai people should be banned from ever owning any land outside of Thailand based on their own policies concerning foreigners inside Thailand.

An open economy where foreigners are able to purchase UK assets has been hugely beneficial to the UK exchequer and until the seemingly voiceless poor (looking up the property ladder from the bottom) find a voice powerful enough to shout down the status quo noone is going to listen to the revenge pleas of someone who volunteered to leave the country!

Now, Now, if you have the right visas and permits to legally be in the US, you

have nothing to fear of, but if not... welcome to the life's story of many foreignness

residing in Thailand, what goes around, comes around....

Total sensational rubbish from the crooked media. Get the proper work permit or student visa, and you're good to go.

Of course, if Thais intend to illegally work/overstay, then they should not go at any time.

"some of whom have worked without the proper documentation" aha, there's the zinger. So you should be fine if you don't break the law, do the right thing, and follow the rules of the visa you entered upon? Got it.

As far as I can see this story is a complete lie.The position of Thais in the US is no different than under the Obama administration. Those Thais breaking immigration laws face exactly the same consequences as before.

Muslims in the US might well have justifiable concerns now.But Thais are not on the radar.Looks like typical Sutichai nonsense to me.

How ironic.

And perhaps Trump can notice that any US goods sent to Thailand have huge taxes imposed whereas

not the same policy when Thai goods are imported into the US.

It's typical of the scare-mongering that accompanies almost all Trump-bashing.  In the wingnut world, playing to ignorance & fear, with some good old-fashioned race-baiting for seasoning, works.

Complaints from citizens of Thailand, a country with very strict work permit laws and rules, about enforcement of work permit rules in USA seems a bit silly. The restaurant owners in the USA can hire anyone authorized to work, but  food service employment, and many other jobs,  are highly restricted in Thailand. The Nation Group needs look internally before they publish complaints about other country's policies.

Thais had problem entering US even under Obama so I guess it will be even harder under Trump!

My friend tried to get tourist visas for his family (4 people) to visit his sister ad her family. My friends sister is married to a (white) American and is a neutralized US citizen and was clearly stating that my friend would stay with her and her family. The embassy refused their visas and the reason they gave for that was that my friend didn't have enough money and the embassy thought they where going to US for work... they had "only" 3.5 million Baht in the bank and they have 3 different companies employing about 30 people!

Complete BS. The order only applies to 7 nations and Thailand ain't one of them. Besides, it's only a temporary measure.

More lies from the Media !  I wonder if this Thai newspaper is supported financially by middle east donors to spread their propoganda

None of the thai residents I've spoken have made any plans to leave.

Is this post a joke? This certainly goes beyond a belief that those in the country illegally should be deported and seems to speak of your hatred of the Thai people instead.

Right on, and make all Thais living in foreign countries report there whereabouts every 90 days, and all Thais have to report any change of address within 24 hours.

If Thais are there legally, there is nothing to fear. There is no travel ban for Thailand. Get a visa, honor the visa and leave when it expires. It's not that hard really. I guess Thailand just wants to feel like a victim. It is the time of the Oppression Olympics. Who can be the biggest victim, the most oppressed, the most discriminated against? Go for the gold.

And the USA is amazingly lenient in granting visas...much more so than other countries that are often cited as being more open minded (e.g., Canada).

Tit for tat.  US citizens can't stay in Thailand or work illegally.  No tears from me for Thai citizens breaking US immigration and work laws.
Follow the rules, apply for the visas, stay within the laws.  Just like we do here in the Land of Smiles.

Remember:
"Good guys in; Bad guys out."  It's a two-way street!

Why do Thai's want to go to the US for? Thailand is best chums with the next super power China. Why not go there to study or work? Many students I hear about around my neck of the woods go to India to study. Much cheaper and easier visa wise. As for work a lot of Thais prefer Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Malaysia to work in.

Its all to do with 'face', "My son/daughter has a degree from USA, UK, CANADA etc.......doesn't quite sound the same as a degree from Mumbai, Beijing  or Hong Kong.........what they learn is irrelevant

No, it's not a joke. I dislike the law, not the people. Big difference there.

Have you noticed how Liberal Journalists never ever use the term ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT?

Posted

The only people (Thai and others) who should worry are those in country without the proper permission to stay or those who are using their visas for other purposes (i.e. working more than the permitted hours on a student visa).

Like any country in the world, follow their rules and you are good to go.

and have a certain amount of funds, not forgetting to report hotel/address to the local police/immigration office within 24 hours outside of state

He will last until 4-6 months after the midterm elections, after the republicans loose big time at the state, state-wide, and local levels and they finally wake up and figure out Trump is not only a paranoid narcissist and sociopath, but he is toxic for their careers.  As Trump comes to terms with the fact that he is not the supreme leader his behavior will get really crazy and he will either resign or be impeached.
