BANGKOK: -- A group of employees of Thai Airways International Plc gathered at Suvarnabhumi international airport on Sunday morning to demand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha to use his special power vested by Section 44 to set up a special panel to investigate former boards and managements of the national flag carrier for alleged policy corruption.

A former deputy police chief accused of forest encroachment

PATTAYA, 13 February 2017 (NNT) - Minister of Transport Arkhom Termpittayapaisith on Sunday presided over the opening ceremony of the Pattaya - Hua Hin ferry service at the Bali Hai pier in Chon Buri province. The ferry service is part of the government’s policy to develop connection between transportation systems in the Gulf of Thailand.

King anoints new Supreme Patriarch

BANGKOK: -- HIS MAJESTY King Maha Vajiralongkorn yesterday presided over the ceremony to appoint Somdet Phra Ariyawongsakhatayan, the abbot of Ratchabophit Sathitmahasimaram Temple, as the country’s 20th Supreme Patriarch at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

 

To honour Thailand’s new Buddhism chief, an investiture ceremony started at about 6.30pm with the King presenting saffron robes to senior monks from the Sangha Supreme Council. He then lit candles and incense sticks to worship the Tripitaka, after which senior monks of the Racha Khana rank chanted and granted religious precepts to the King.

 

The Bureau of Royal Scribes and Royal Decorations then announced the royal command appointing the new Supreme Patriarch.
