New company registrations expected to hit 4-year high

By PETCHANET PRATRUANGKRAI

THE NUMBER of new company registrations in Thailand this year is expected to rise to the highest level in four years, following more investment by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as stepped-up registration by gold shops, the Business Development Department said Tuesday.

Last month, 6,279 new companies were registered in the Kingdom, a year-on-year increase of 9 per cent.

But what is the number of inactive and delisted registrations that might reverse the favorable impact of new registrations?

Apparently the article itself answered the question of how meaningful increased registrations are: "the combined initial investment value of these new businesses was down 42 per cent .... lower than the average invested by new enterprises in January last year."

How long will those companies last? Number of sustained registrations (ie., greater than 5 years) or net registrations might be a better measure.

Start a business. Apply for and get the Government low interest loan  ( cos your credit has expired elsewhere ) .Buy a new pickup truck.

Close business.

Be another statistic among the ever increasing NPL sector

This will be the route many of the new startups will take, just to get their hands on cheap money that is not available to them through normal channels

Exactly.  And, then have to sell the pickup at a loss.

Pickup truck repo,ed by the banks and entered into the ever increasing book that they have for loans valuations against assets losses.

But hey ! People have been employed in the failing Auto Sector to produce the truck !!!!!
