PM says reconciliation must be achieved despite obstacles

BANGKOK, 15 February 2017 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said commitment must be made to unite the country despite the degree of difficulty.

According to the premier, the cabinet is now welcoming opinions from all sides involved in the reconciliation process especially the committee on national reform, strategy, and reconciliation.

The Prime Minister cited the need to look at the cause of the problem, adding that the process was not about granting amnesty to anyone.

During the weekly cabinet meeting, the premier gave cabinet members handouts containing excerpts about national reform and good governance from books and journals written by respectable academics.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan revealed that he had invited 70 political parties to meetings during which they will discuss ways to end social divide. He reassured that amnesty would not be included in the discussion.

All who might seek to be part of the political process are already reconciled to the fact that they are being ordered to "reconcile" themselves to an oppressive, top down regime, run by a minority clique, that will continue to demand subservience from them and not governance by them.

They grow more reconciled to the fact that there is only really one way to even provide a chance of establishing something like a modern democratic state (if that is what they want).

Reconcile yourself General, "History" will find that way.

A fair and reasonable settlement with Yingluck will help the reconciliation process greatly.

Prayut is right. All sides need to come forward with goodwill and good faith.

The future looks good for Thailand.

There has to be an election with the General declaring beforehand that he will fully support the winning party, no matter who, and helping them to make a go of getting the country back in line.
