Nok Air will no longer offer a free 15 kilogram allowance for checked baggage to customers who buy the airline’s dirt-cheap promotional tickets, Nok Air announced this afternoon.

The new rule will come into effect on Feb. 20, and flyers on promo tickets who want to check their bags will need to pay THB525 for 15 kilograms on domestic flights and THB1,600 on international flights.

The budget airline usually offers three classes of tickets: promotional fares — which are sold seasonally, Nok Eco — the standard tickets, and Nok Flexi — the flexible tickets.

Yes, I switched most of my 2016 domestic travel to Thai Lion Air, as long as they don't charge for credit card bookings and 15 kg bags. Next trip booked for late March on Thai Lion Air.

Do the airlines not understand that it is better to encourage passengers to check-in luggage in advance of the flight, than to encourage them to make the plane late by obstructing the boarding procedure while they try to stuff the contents of a small house into the overhead lockers???

Budget airlines only care about making money.

Just got charged 900 baht at Don Muang with Air Asia for one checked bag

which is entirely your own fault as you obviously failed to pre-book your luggage

That has nothing to do with being "budget Airlines".

Virtually ALL legacy carriers apply the same tactics nowadays, be at BA, LH, AF and all the US carriers as well (with Southwest, which I personally don't like, being the notable exception). The cheapest basic fare only covers carry-on luggage.
