PATTAYA: -- Nong Preu police investigating the shooting of UK man Tony Kenway in Pattaya have hit back at suggestions that the assailant and his accomplice were allowed to flee Thailand.

Jirawut Tanthasri said that he and his team of investigators are actively working with their Cambodian counterparts to get those

responsible back to Thailand, reported Thairath.

The case has dragged on now for three weeks since Mr Kenway, 39, was shot dead in his red Posche Cayenne outside the Sanit Sports Club in Pong district.

Suspected shooter Abel Caldeira Bonito, 28, from South Africa and motorcycle riding get away driver Miles Dicken Turner, 24, of the UK escaped over the border following the attack on January 24th.

Jirawut said that the Cambodian authorities are still trying to locate both men but reiterated that they believe they are still in Cambodia.

The process of extraditing a man called Toby, 44, the alleged mastermind of the hit, is still underway in Cambodia after objections

were raised by British authorities, he said.

Jirawut denied reporters' claims that the shooter and his accomplice were allowed to escape saying that he was responsible for the case as it was in his jurisdiction. He told reporters that they would be the first to know when there were further developments.

"I am in charge," he told Thai Rath, stressing that the hit involved a multi million baht debt owed by the victim.

Thai police had sought help from their Cambodian counterparts to hunt down several foreigners suspected of being involved in the murder of Mr. Kenway and 3 weeks on the most likely left Cambodia now Vietnam / Laos or wherever .. Wonderful job RTP you look like you are clutching at straws within the past few days to be honest with everybody ..  Also Toby was arrested at a cafe  in Phnom Penh International Airport this could already mean they have left on the 15th the murders  stick that in your pipe and smoke it  now this is all so fishy since the murder has happened but i understand the bigger picture now within a space of a few days and it seems a lot of back handers have happened ..  So Toby only has this to think about now while in Cambodia ?

Punishments

According to the Law on Immigration, aliens can face the following punishments if they do not complaint with the Cambodian legislation (Articles 29-34):

  • If you enter Cambodia in an illegal way, you can be in prison up to 6 months, then expelled.
    • People who assisted a foreigner to enter Cambodia illegally, get the same punishment.
    • A Cambodian authority that helps a foreigner to enter the country illegally, get prison up to one year, including negligence, lack of attention or fail to follow due procedures.
    • Transports use for illegal entering of aliens into Cambodia, are confiscated.
  • You have to pay fines for entering illegally the country or for overstaying. Paying fines means also you have to leave the country.
  • If you fake documents such as residence cards, visas, passports, etc, you can get prison up to 15 years. Persons who help you to fake documents, can get the same sentence.

If the Ministry of Interior orders your deportation:

  • You have the right to file a complaint to the Court within the two months of the signature of the Ministry for the expulsion.
  • You have to leave Cambodia within 7 days of the signature of the order – remind that you have to pay your own transport. Only a Court decision can stop the expulsion order.
  • In some serious cases, such as criminals, you can be placed in a retention center.

Foreigners caught working in Cambodia without the appropriate visa and work permit face a fine of 500,000 riel (about $125)

what was the period of time between the "hit" and the perps being Identified?

they made it to the border before the Thai government identified them and a alert went out, yes?

and then straight to an international airport in Cambodia? but no record of departure? so maybe not.

and the story of Cambodia not receiving a "request" from Thailand to arrest them for about three days. Of course everyone in the world can read about them on the web within minutes of being identified.

surely Interpol has a world wide alert out for these two scum?

are they eating rats and white rice in the Cambodian jungle?

anyway I bet they are in Sihanoukville wearing wigs and false mustaches.

...but nobody's caught them yet.

Yes but when they go home their mams are going to send them to bed with no supper as they know they killed someone.

Failing that they're either going to be on the run for life (difficult at 20ish)unable to return to their home nations or find a country with no UK/Thai/South African extradition treaty.

Well Toby could have seen them off or paid briberies  to whoever before he was arrest at a cafe at the International Airport in Phnom Penh on the 15th. This seems a little odd to be a cafe at the airport .. Counterfeit passports in Cambodia and also in Thailand are very high these days  on the blackmarket going of the media reports I wouldn't be surprised everybody already left now Cambodia ..  Also the airport only has BBQ Chicken,The Blue Pumpkin,Burger King, Costa Coffee ,Dairy Queen, Pho 24, The Pizza Company, Taste of Asia, Starbucks, Chatime, Dim Sum Emperors, Metro, Yoshinoya, and Plaza Premium Lounge.. Even on the day of the arrest of Toby there were flights to and between 6am / 12 noon  departing Bangkok. Moscow,  Ho Chi Minh City, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong but so much air traffic from Bangkok it's amazing within that period of time so anything could have happened at the airport before he was arrested .?

...not allowed to flee. Does that mean one may get permission to "flee"?

no he is trying to explain that the RTP under his command are not corrupt, they are merely hopelessly incompetent.

it is a compelling argument.....

Sooner or later the killer-team will be arrested, if they not already dead and buried somewhere. Who know it? But the time for go underground is much more harder this days. Quality counterfeit passports not easy to find and very expensive.

It's not easy to hide yourself in asia if everyone talk about you and your photo is in the news.

Very much doubt they are dead and buried, also they have just written off a multi million baht debt so the cost of a fake passport wouldn't be an issue.
