No arrests in boiler room killing, as wife demands justice

1229-NEWS18-PIC1.jpg

PATTAYA:--The widow of an accused British “boiler room” gangster shot dead in broad daylight near Pattaya is calling for the extradition to Thailand of a suspect falsely claimed to have been arrested in Cambodia last week.

Somporn Kenway, whose British husband Tony, 39, was killed as he sat in his red Porsche Cayenne outside the Sanit Sports Club in Pong Sub-district Jan. 24, went to Nongprue Police Station Feb. 10 to push for the extradition of Toby James Nelham, 44, who reportedly was arrested in Sihanoukville and was to be handed over to Thai police at the Cambodian border Feb. 11.

The report, printed by both English- and Thai-language media, was false.

The Cambodia Daily reported Feb. 13 that Nelham has not been arrested nor even located, quoting both Sihanoukville police and the Interior Ministry.

Somporn believed that the United Kingdom had blocked Cambodia from extraditing Nelham to Thailand, due to it having the death penalty. She claimed the Briton had confessed and was slandering her late husband with allegations about illegal activity. Reporters were not allowed into her meeting with Nongprue police.

Nelham is accused of hiring Briton Miles Dicken Turner, 24, and South African Abel Bonito Caldeira, 28, to kill Kenway after a falling out over their joint boiler room operation that swindled people in the U.K. and Australia out of their life savings through bogus investments.

Nelham allegedly owed Kenway 8 million baht and, when Nelham didn’t pay, Kenway ratted him out to police and tried to have him arrested. Nelham fled to Cambodia where he reportedly set up a similar call center operation which later failed, another thing for which he blamed Kenway.

Turner and Caldeira fled to Cambodia through a Trat province border crossing together Jan. 24 and remain at large.

What happens to all that money in their joint account? And the expensive condo and Porsche cayenne costing 10m thb? Will all that be seized and be sold off and the monies be given back to the victims? Off course not! The wife will live a life of luxury for the rest of her life whilst those that have been scammed might have lost everything.

What else do you expect is going to happen?

I doubt she keeps a list of victims, the amounts scammed and will sell of all cars and property now to transfer all the money back to them.

B** take their share for helping transferring some title deeds and that's the end of it.

I'm quite surprised that this incident has kept in the public eye so much. It has generated too many seperate threads accross TVF for anyone to be able to keep reasonable track of events. Is consolidation of all threads possible (I doubt it) or could TVF consider keeping a one topic / one thread policy in the future?

If the police really cared about investigating then they could, there's always a financial trail and no one, not even old people, are stupid enough to send money thru western union for investment purposes. Just seize his laptop and emails and hard drives... I dont think there's an equivalent to the SFO in thailand though. So yeah life of luxury for her. But she should watch her back also.

I was going to say, the woman in the photo at the top of this post doesn't even remotely resemble the Facebook photos I've seen of the wife previously. It must be the old makeup thing... Wow!!!!

It is funny how often the "British Embassy" has been used as the fly in the ointment excuse/scapegoat in proceedings. The Foreign Office have issued not a single word about the possible extradition of Mr Nelham and yet all the Thai players seem to point the finger at it.

I imagine a lot of the loot is in secret / overseas / encrypted accounts or other assets and the Thais (police / widow / Land Registry / everybody else) wants to get their hands on it as do the Cambos. They need to put pressure on any farang who has assets to hand over. They will turn on each other eventually although perhaps not in public.

I'm totally confused now.

The above report claims the supposed mastermind of this has NOT been arrested.  But weren't there Cambodia news reports in the past few days quoting Cambodian officials saying they had arrested the guy and were holding him in custody???

The Cambodian old bill have probably had their hands in his pocket and shaking him for everything he has  .Concerning the bird I want whatever camera she used! She gone from me wanting to hunt her down to help spend his money to not being able to stomach the thought of waking up to it !! Maybe he had the easy way out ?

She knew what here 'husband' up to so why is she not charged ?

Exactly. From all accounts the only reason BiB knew to look for Nelham was she grassed him up. Something  not right about this case. Seems to convenient for RTP: got their motive (a relatively small debt) and suspect in one shot.

I was thinking the same thing.  She didn't look half bad in the FB pictures, although considering she has just been widowed, she looks surprisingly happy.

So because she was caught smiling at one particular moment by a photographer that is a reason for you to have ago at her?  Is she supposed to spend the rest of her life never smiling for fear of the Thaivisa Mourning Enforcers?

Loads of money in their joint account, condos in her name, a Porsche Cayenne worth 10m thb... I'd be laughing too if my boiler room husband got what he deserved and left everything to me!
