Pattaya's sex capital image: We can't change it overnight, says tourism chief, but change it we will!

I've read the first couple of pages and I'm not going to read the whole thread.  I've been to Pattaya many times with my family.  I live in Hua Hin an my kids love a trip to Pattaya.  There is much more to do outside of beach road.  For me there's the golf.  For the family, there's a number of theme parks, water parks, animal shows, dolphin shows, beaches, islands, some great markets and shopping, health spas, gymnasiums just to touch the surface.  The beach road and behind is what most people talk about and I guess there are expats that have lived there for years but never ventured outside of the 'red light' district.  Believe me, you can spend a couple of weeks there, doing something different every day without setting foot in the bar area.

No you have a point there, I fully agree our crime rate in the states is probably much worse that's actually what I keep trying to tell people back home.

Thanks for agreeing that Pattaya is a much safer city that somany other cities in the rest of the world.people just read the local news and then completely overreact without taking in consideration the crime level in their own city.

While not wanting to downplay the seriousness of "human trafficking" what happens in tourist resorts like Pattaya is a very small proportion of the total..most of the bar girls are fully aware of what thier work entails, lots think its the way to a better life.
The vast majority of forced prostitution happens away from the farang tourist areas.

See that's the problem people like you don't know because you never leave your little areas. If I have to tell you than you haven't truly seen Thailand.  I suppose I'm supposed to draw you a tourist map and educate everyone.  Try getting out there.

For your information I have driven all over Thailand several times and have seen nothing that could not be compared to other countries.

That's actually not true I wish I could get into the details of how I know that.  A lot of it involves Russian Mafia.  I used to work all over this part of the world in a very sensitive type of job for the United States government.  I'm also retired military.

And if you think this is such a "hostile country" than go home just leave.  You don't have to be here.  I'm sure you all can find just as many Asian hookers in your home countries.

True but they cost too much.

what are authorities trying to do?

transforming Pattaya with its awful beaches into a nice family beach resort? yeah, right.

instead, they should leave the whole thing alone and choose one or two other spots in Thailand where they should invest massively to make them the nicest holiday destinations in SE Asia. That would be so much easier to do, for example on Koh Chang or Koh Samui, some part of Phuket...

Yes it is especially with the so called notorious reputation that Pattaya has then in reality the Pattaya crime rate is fairly low.Just compare it with a notorious city in u homecountry.i convinced much higher murder rate there.

Don't ' change ' it, regulate it, Pattaya is well known for it's liberal sex industry

and this is a good thing as long as you make sure it's safe and free from rouge and

criminal elements, banish those nasty and obnoxious lady boys from Pattaya

or bring them under control, keep drugs and underage from the sex scenes,

If you kill sex tourism I n Pattaya, you can kiss goodbye to half or more of your

tourists and that's a fact....

Everybody keeps talking about underage , i hardly see any wherever i go? Am i blind or what?

there are some cases here and there, but underage prostitution remains relatively rare in the industry catering to tourists.

Not so for places in provincial towns catering to Thai customers.

Karl Pilkington in "Satisfied Fool" takes an IQ test (83, average is 100) talks to a smart people about what it means to be smart...

A couple just throw him out after 5 minutes of talking with him.  Because they quickly realize that's it's a total waste of time talking with him.

His main point is that he's "satisfied" or "happy" and that most smart people weren't as happy as him.

One person shot that idea down.  Pigs are happy wallowing in the mud.  So what?

That's my response to Pattaya.  So what?  Nothing anyone says or does in Pattaya means anything or is significant in any way.

If Pattaya fell into the ocean tomorrow, it would have absolutely zero impact on the rest of the world.  It's like a fart with no smell.  ?

 Who is he kidding

Pattaya will never be a Family Friendly place to go and relax

Too much money is being made from the sex trade

It would be tantamount to kicking out the Auto Industry

Sorry, it already is a family-friendly place to go and relax.  Check out Harbor--filled with family things to do. Teddy Bear Museum. The two new water parks. The Floating Market. Nongnooch Gardens. The aquarium. The beaches. Island trips.  Snorkeling. That art illusion place.  The rides at Jomtien Park.  Animal shows. That water ride thing that tips you over. Go Karts.  Ripley's.  Sightseeing trips, etc.  Heck, just riding in a songtaew is fun.  Lots to do away from the bars.

Why would you make such a remark about how waveemanwww met his wife.Is it meant to be a glib remark? Whats wrong with meeting a future spouse in a bar? He is happy, so why remark on it.Just because your wife g/f wasn't a bar girl, doesn't mean she aint shagging on the quiet.many guys on here have ex barmaid wives/long term girlfriends. So whats your problem?

Not for me to judge, but if they do want to end all the prostitution, they should consider alternative employment for the estimated 27,000 prostitutes and the 100,000s of others that feed off the industry.

For if you take away all their employment, I'd assume crime would skyrocket, along with hunger.

I don't think this workforce could easily be absorbed by the tescos, big c's, and makros.
