I recently read on another thread that older accounts could be closed automatically.  I was worried because i have a very old account with KTB that has circa 10K in it.  I visited a local branch the other day (not the branch that it was opened at) and the manager told me no worries.

Has anyone had an account closed automatically by a bank.  And what were the circumstances?

I got explanation from KTB about Dormant account. In general, a low-balance savings account (below 2,100 baht) which has shown no activity (deposits and/or withdrawals) over a long period, other than posting of the interest and/or service charges. Dormant account could be closed automatically.

At any branch or just the branch the account was opened ?

That may depend on the bank. I have 2 accounts with TMB, one in Chonburi and another in Pattaya. I live in Chonburi and when I got a new passport went down to the branch to have the number updated, straightforward but they said I would have to go to Pattaya to have that account updated.

There was no need in either case to show the old passport.
