BANGKOK — It will take until Friday to know whether seven absentee members of the parliament risk losing their jobs for not meeting attendance requirements – or up to three months for a newly launched review to run its course.

Days after the interim legislature dismissed a report that seven junta appointees had failed to participate in the minimum number of votes necessary, public pressure prompted the assembly vice chairman to announce Monday that an inquiry would look into whether they had properly obtained permission.

NLA members took leave ‘in line with regulations’
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai yesterday defended the approval given to members who sought to take leave, saying he granted the requests based on the body’s regulations.

But in a bid to prevent future allegations against NLA members about the issue, Pornpetch said he would tighten procedures to ensure that members did not leave work without a valid reason.

3 Months to investigate this! Surely they could just ask the members where they have been for the past couple of years, and why they seemingly were always busy and finally what is the point of you being on the NLA if you are so tied up with other responsibilities. (The last part being rhetorical) It would be interesting to see what their paid assistants allowed with the NLA position have been doing for the past period.

Crazy, believe Prayut his brother only showed 5 times or something out of 450.. if you have that many excuses even if valid he had to turn the job down before. Just totally unjust. Guy should pay back his salary and make and quit.

3 months.. crazy long for something like this. a month would be long, but given how slow things move in Thailand seems to be on par.

I 100% agree if your tied up so much with other responsibilities.. then don't take the job.

An other gem of the junta is that they are not allowed to have 2 salaries, and that is why this is called an allowance.. talk about bending the rules.

That face should be next to the word "smug" in the dictionary.  As this is an unelected government that answers no nobody, this sadly will effect very little.

Whoever is doing the talking, the General is certainly all ears

In other words,...

(ah, forget it, why do I even bother)

These are junta-appointed public officials who should be investigated by the NAAC for abuse of power and banned from political office for five years.

Now that would be reform.

You are absolutely correct he should never had been put in this position, the audacity of him taking over 100,000 per month to turn up 4/5 votes out of 350/450 votes which is grounds for removal from the position, but this is not just the junta leaders brother but another six others doing the same thing...!

The other disgusting thing IMO is the "Gadfly" comment,  Anyone regardless of political persuasion has the right to call for an independent investigation without being referred to in public as a "Gadfly"  and he should be removed and re-tune his salary also...!

'... assembly leaders said the seven, all high-ranking government officials at the time, had permission to miss more than one-third of legislative votes in 90 days, which is cause for removal under assembly regulations.' Then why were they given permission?

'The member with the worst attendance record among the seven was Gen. Preecha Chan-ocha ... He cast only six votes out of a total 453 roll calls in a six-month period.' Lucky his brother's the PM, then. Do they share the unearned salary, I wonder?

I can think of someone with a lower parliamentary attendance record. Similarly taking payment under false pretences.

So why do you not condemn these people with the same amount of poison and vigor  as you apply to some others?

I've yet to read any post from you applying the same standards to the junta as you apply to PTP/Shinz.
